PREVIEWING THE UFC 115: LIDDELL VS. FRANKLIN SPIKE TV CARD

By David Tees on 6/10/2010 11:56 AM
UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Mac Danzig (19-7-1) vs. “Handsome” Matt Wiman (11-5-0)

Mac Danzig has had an interesting run in the UFC, defeating Tommy Speer, Mark Bocek and Justin Buchholz, while suffering defeats to Clay Guida, Josh Neer and Jim Miller. Mac Danzig got into the UFC after winning the UFC Ultimate Fighter 6, when he defeated Tommy Speer in the finals. Mac Danzig also had a long run in the King Of The Cage promotion, defeating Mike Valdez, Frank Kirmse, Takumi Nakayama, Jason Ireland, Orlando Ruiz, Buddy Clinton and John Mahlow, while suffering a lone defeat to Clay French. Prior to entering the UFC in late 2007, Mac Danzig had already competed against UFC veterans Kurt Pellegrino and Jason Von Flue. Mac Danzig has also fought once in the PRIDE promotion, suffering a defeat to Hayato Sakurai by knockout. Mac Danzig will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with ten victories coming by way of submission. Matt Wiman has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Brian Geraghty, Michihiro Omigawa, Justin Buchholz, Thiago Tavares and Shane Nelson, while suffering defeats to Spencer Fisher, Jim Miller and Sam Stout. Matt Wiman is a veteran of the Extreme Fighting League, defeating Joe Garza, Greg Bossler, Vern Johns, David Franks and Thomas Grissom. Prior to entering the UFC in mid-2006, Matt Wiman had fought UFC veteran Roger Huerta at a Freestyle Fighting Championships event. Matt Wiman started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a five fight undefeated streak that had lasted over a full year. Matt Wiman made his professional MMA debut in an auspicious fashion, competing in three fights in one night and winning all three of those fights. It has been six months since Matt Wiman last had an MMA fight, so cage rust can become a factor in the fight. Matt Wiman will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with four victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Matt Wiman

UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Tyson Griffin (14-2-0) vs. Evan Dunham (10-0-0)

Tyson Griffin has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating David Lee, Clay Guida, Thiago Tavares, Gleison Tibau, Marcus Aurelio, Rafael Dos Anjos and Hermes Franca, while suffering defeats to Frankie Edgar and Sean Sherk. Tyson Griffin also competed once in the Strikeforce promotion, defeating Duane Ludwig by way of knockout. Tyson Griffin started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with an eight fight undefeated streak that had lasted nearly three years. Tyson Griffin also competed in the Gladiator Challenge promotion, defeating Ryan Frost, Cody Williams, Urijah Faber, Jorge Evangelista and Chuck Kim. This fight against Evan Dunham will mark the first fight in nine months for Tyson Griffin, so cage rust can become a factor in the fight. Tyson Griffin will be entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which has lasted over a full year. Tyson Griffin will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with six victories coming by knockout. Evan Dunham is currently undefeated in UFC competition, defeating Per Eklund, Marcus Aurelio and Efrain Escudero. Evan Dunham had also competed in the Palace Fighting Championships, defeating Dustin Akbari by submission. Of his ten professional MMA fights, only two have gone to a decision for Evan Dunham, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. Despite competing in professional MMA for over three years, the UFC is the only promotion Evan Dunham has fought multiple fights in. Evan Dunham has also competed in the Gladiator Challenge promotion, defeating Gabriel Martinez by unanimous decision. Evan Dunham will be entering the fight riding a ten fight undefeated streak, which has lasted over three years. Evan Dunham will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with six victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Tyson Griffin
