RANKING THE UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTER WINNERS: PART THREE

By David Tees on 6/17/2010 9:48 PM
With the eleventh season of the UFC Ultimate Fighter coming to a close this Saturday Night, I thought I would rank the previous sixteen winners of the UFC Ultimate Fighter. In this column, I will be going through the next four competitors in my rankings of past UFC Ultimate Fighter winners, as we are nearing the top of the list.

#8: Roy Nelson (UFC Record: 2-0-0) (UFC Ultimate Fighter 10 Winner)

When the commercials aired on Spike TV to promote the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10, they featured street fighter turned MMA fighter Kimbo Slice. However, the commercials should have focused on Roy Nelson, who dominated the field to win that seasons competition. Roy Nelson stormed through the UFC by first defeating Brendan Schaub at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale, then destroying Stefan Struve at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 21. Roy Nelson will next face UFC Heavyweight Title top contender Junior Dos Santos at UFC 117 this coming August, where the winner could be next in line for a UFC Heavyweight Title opportunity.

#7: Nate Diaz (UFC Record: 7-3-0) (UFC Ultimate Fighter 5 Winner)

While brother Nate Diaz is dominating the Strikeforce Welterweight Division, Nate Diaz has been dominating in the UFC Lightweight Division before moving up a weight class to the UFC Welterweight Division. While in the UFC Lightweight Division, Nate Diaz defeated the likes of Manny Gamburyan, Junior Assuncao, Kurt Pellegrino, Josh Neer and Melvin Guillard. Nate Diaz has since moved up a weight class to the UFC Welterweight Division, where he defeated Rory Markham at UFC 111. Next up for Nate Diaz may be Marcus Davis, as they are potentially set for a battle at UFC 118 this coming August.

#6: Joe Stevenson (UFC Record: 8-5-0) (UFC Ultimate Fighter 2 Co-Winner)

Like the aforementioned Nate Diaz, Joe Stevenson has been a constant contender in the UFC Lightweight Division, since winning the UFC Ultimate Fighter 2. Joe Stevenson has fought a who’s who list of lightweight competitors like Yves Edwards, Josh Neer, Melvin Guillard, Kurt Pellegrino, BJ Penn, Kenny Florian, Diego Sanchez, Nate Diaz, Spencer Fisher and George Sotiropoulos. Joe Stevenson became the first UFC Ultimate Fighter champion to challenge for a UFC title when he fought BJ Penn at UFC 80. Joe Stevenson will get a huge opportunity this August to put himself back in contention in the UFC Lightweight Division when he faces Takanori Gomi at UFC On Versus II.

#5: Michael Bisping (UFC Record: 9-3-0) (UFC Ultimate Fighter 3 Co-Winner)

Michael Bisping will forever go down in UFC history as the first UK born fighter to win the UFC Ultimate Fighter. Michael Bisping has already stepped into the octagon against top MMA fighters like Matt Hamill, Rashad Evans, Chris Leben, Dan Henderson, Denis Kang, Wanderlei Silva and Dan Miller. Michael Bisping was also a coach on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8, leading Team UK members James Wilks and Ross Pearson to victory. Michael Bisping, after defeating Dan Miller at UFC 114, is back near top contention in the UFC Middleweight Division.
