RANKING THE UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTER WINNERS: PART FOUR

By David Tees on 6/18/2010 8:48 PM
With the eleventh season of the UFC Ultimate Fighter coming to a close this Saturday Night, I thought I would rank the previous sixteen winners of the UFC Ultimate Fighter. In this column, I will be going through the final four competitors in my rankings of past UFC Ultimate Fighter winners, as we are now at the top of the list.

#4: Diego Sanchez (UFC Record: 10-4-0) (UFC Ultimate Fighter 1 Co-Winner)

Diego Sanchez has been so close to being a champion in two different UFC weight classes, the UFC Welterweight Division and UFC Lightweight Division. Diego Sanchez recently competed against former UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn for the title, but came up short at UFC 107. Diego Sanchez has fought a ton of top MMA names like Nick Diaz, Karo Parisyan, Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, BJ Penn, Joe Stevenson, Kenny Florian and Clay Guida. Diego Sanchez will always be remembered in UFC history as the first fighter ever to win a UFC Ultimate Fighter championship.

#3: Matt Serra (UFC Record: 7-6-0) (UFC Ultimate Fighter 4 Co-Winner)

Matt Serra, unlike Travis Lutter, capitalized on his UFC Ultimate Fighter championship to upset Georges St. Pierre to become the UFC Welterweight Champion. Matt Serra would lose his title back to Georges St. Pierre in their rematch, but will always be remembered as the first UFC Ultimate Fighter champion to win UFC gold. Matt Sera also returned to the reality show as a coach, which he did opposite of Matt Hughes on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 6. Matt Serra is also the longest tenured UFC Ultimate Fighter alumni, as he has been with the promotion since May 2001.

#2: Forrest Griffin (UFC Record: 8-4-0) (UFC Ultimate Fighter 1 Co-Winner)

Forrest Griffin, arguably, is the most popular fighter to ever emerge from any season of the UFC Ultimate Fighter reality show. Along with Stephan Bonnar, Forrest Griffin was awarded the “greatest fight in UFC history” honors, as voted by the fans before UFC 100. Forrest Griffin also won the UFC Light Heavyweight Title from Quinton Jackson at UFC 86, after coach against him on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 7. Forrest Griffin has also appeared as either a fighter or coach on more seasons of the UFC Ultimate Fighter than any other of the reality shows alumni, as he was part of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 1 (competitor), UFC Ultimate Fighter 7 (coach) and UFC Ultimate Fighter 11 (coach).

#1: Rashad Evans (UFC Record: 10-1-1) (UFC Ultimate Fighter 2 Co-Winner)

Rashad Evans earns the number one spot on this list, as he recently defeated rival UFC Ultimate Fighter coach Quinton Jackson at UFC 114. Rashad Evans is also a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, as he defeated Forrest Griffin at UFC 92. The lone blemish in the UFC career of Rashad Evans came to Lyoto Machida at UFC 98, costing him his UFC Light Heavyweight Title. Rashad Evans, fresh off his victory over Quinton Jackson, earns himself a future UFC Light Heavyweight Title shot against Mauricio Rua either at the end of 2010 or early 2011.
