PREVIEWING THE UFC 116: LESNAR VS. CARWIN SPIKE TV CARD

By David Tees on 7/1/2010 6:41 PM
UFC Light Heavyweight Division Fight

Seth “The Silverback” Petruzelli (12-4-0) vs. Ricardo Romero (10-1-0)

Seth Petruzelli is currently winless in UFC competition, suffering defeats to the duo of Matt Hamill and Wilson Gouveia. Seth Petruzelli is currently undefeated in the King Of The Cage promotion, defeating Rocky Batasttini, Brian Hawkins and Dan Severn. Seth Petruzelli is best remembered by MMA fans for handing Kimbo Slice his first MMA loss, which eventually lead to the demise of the Elite XC promotion. It has been over three years since Seth Petruzelli last competed in the UFC, with his last UFC appearance happening at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 9. Of his sixteen professional MMA fights, only two have gone to a decision for Seth Petruzelli, which speaks to his finishing abilities. Seth Petruzelli also fought in the first ever World Extreme Cagefighting event, suffering a defeat to Gan McGee. Seth Petruzelli will be entering the fight riding a four fight winning streak, which has lasted over two years. Seth Petruzelli will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with ten victories coming by knockout. Ricardo Romero will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is a longtime veteran of the Ring Of Combat promotion. In fact, Ricardo Romero has fought every fight in his professional MMA career in the Ring Of Combat promotion. While in the Ring Of Combat promotion, Ricardo Romero has defeated UFC veteran James McSweeney by submission. Of his eleven professional MMA fights, only one has gone to a decision for Ricardo Romero, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. Ricardo Romero started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a five fight undefeated streak that had lasted over a year. It has been nearly a year since Ricardo Romero last had an MMA fight, so cage rust can be a factor in the fight. Ricardo Romero will be entering the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which has lasted over a full year. Ricardo Romero will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with five victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Ricardo Romero

UFC Heavyweight Division Fight

Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub (5-1-0) vs. Chris “The Crowbar” Tuchscherer (18-2-0)

Brendan Schaub has had an interesting run in the UFC, defeating Chase Gormley and suffering a defeat to Roy Nelson. Brendan Schaub was a contestant on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10, which was eventually won by Roy Nelson. Brendan Schaub is also a veteran of the Ring Of Fire promotion, defeating Jay Lester, Alex Rozman and Bojan Spalevic. Of his six professional MMA fights, none have gone past the first round for Brendan Schaub, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. Brendan Schaub started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a four fight undefeated streak that has lasted over a year. Despite fighting twice in the UFC already, this fight will mark the first time Brendan Schaub has competed on a UFC pay-per-view card. Brendan Schaub will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with all of his victories coming by knockout. Chris Tuchscherer has had an interesting run in the UFC, defeating Tim Hague and suffering a defeat to Gabriel Gonzaga. Chris Tuchscherer also fought in the lone YAMMA Pit Fighting Tournament, defeating Tony Sylvester and Alexey Oleinik, while suffering a defeat to Travis Wiuff in the finals. Prior to entering the UFC in August 2009, Chris Tuchscherer has fought other top MMA fighters like Krzysztof Soszynski, Jason Miller, Travis Wiuff and Brandon Lee Hinkle. Chris Tuchscherer also competed in the Dakota Fighting Championships promotion, defeating Chris Clark, Jim Dobson, Damien Decorah, Chuck Grigsby and Matt Eckerle. Chris Tuchscherer started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a fourteen fight undefeated streak that had lasted over three years. Chris Tuchscherer had an auspicious debut in the UFC, competing against Gabriel Gonzaga in a fight that featured a horrible low blow to Chris Tuchscherer, which he still fought the fight after throwing up multiple times. Chris Tuchscherer will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with seven victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Chris Tuchscherer
