SHOWTIME ALL STAR WRESTLING TV REPORT

LAST WEEK…Ryan Genesis pinned JP Magnum with a TKO and said he was ready for Picture Perfect at any time…Chase Stevens retained the SAW International Championship over Arrick Andrews in a highly competitive 15 minute match. Afterwards, Stevens showed his respect for Andrews.

SAW matchmaker Reno Riggins was live at Buffalo Billiards with the SAW tag belts. He gave us the skinny on the upcoming hour including surprising postmatch comments from Stevens and a tag title match in the main event – Derrick King Enterprises vs. Wolfie D & Vordell Walker.

Showtime All-Star Wrestling comes to the Gallatin Civic Center on July 24. Marc Anthony vs. Arrick “The Dragon” Andrews, SAW Tag Title Match: Champions Derrick King Enterprises (Derrick King & Drew Haskins) vs. Wolfie D & Vordell Walker, plus SAW International Champion Chase Stevens, "No Mercy" Tommy Mercer, Shane Williams, Jesse Emerson, and the debut of NWA National Champion “Universal Soldier” Phil Shatter. Bell time is 7pm. Tickets available at the Civic Center box office. Front row $10 in advance, $12 day of show. General Admission $8 in advance $10 day of show.

1 – “King of the Hill” SHANE WILLIAMS vs. CODY MELTON

A match up of two equal sized guys. Both are well put together but vertically challenged. Reno said Williams had a little man’s complex. “Not anything you would know much about, Reno?” Masters asked. Reno said he would post Williams up and slam on him all day. They tested each other’s wrestling skills early. Melton was more than holding his own, so Williams resorted to gouging, choking and closed fists. Williams hit a beautiful leg lariat and played to the crowd. We returned from the commercial break just as Williams missed with a middle rope fist drop. Melton hit a high knee and elevated Williams with a back drop. Melton went for broke with a frogpslash. Nobody home. Williams got the pin with Hard Knocks Life (a DDT).

WINNER: Williams in 6:36 with Hard Knocks Life. That name left me expecting something more exotic than a garden variety DDT. Nevertheless, it was an impressive debut for Williams and a pleasing way to open the hour. Everything looked solid.

Riggins cut to the aftermath of last week’s title match between Stevens and Andrews, putting it over strongly in the process.

Stevens said the stuff on TV every Monday and Thursday night was bleep. “Well I’m not a damn entertainer. I am a professional wrestler.” Stevens said they didn’t do that bleep, and if he had to take a pay cut, so be it. It was people like he and Andrews would rebuild the sport from the ground up. “We are the modern day gladiators.” Stevens told Andrews he was one hell of a wrestler and shook his hand. Stevens said Andrews would one day have the SAW title around his waist.

Back to Reno, who said he had never been so proud of two wrestlers. “When we started SAW three years ago that was our goal; for our wrestlers to go out and give 110% night in and night out.” Reno said who was to say Stevens should not be seen on another wrestling show on Monday nights. He said SAW didn’t have the glitz but they had some of the best wrestlers in the world with some of the biggest hearts in the world.

A replay of Dr. Darden’s injury report on Hammerjjack (a hyperextended hyoid bone) and the message from Hammerjack’s wife, Ellen England, thanking the fans for their support. Bottom line being that it is unknown when or if Hammer can return to pro wrestling.

As “Here Comes the Bride” played in the background, the flower-filled screen read: “Dearly beloved we are gathered here today…To join this man & woman in holy matrimony…If anyone knows of any reason they should not be joined…Speak now or forever hold your peace.”

“I object! I object!” Cut to Marc Anthony at the podium of an empty meeting room. “Hammerjack, it’s never been about your overbearing, overweight wife. It’s never been about your nappy headed child. They are mere casualties of this war.” Anthony plucked the bride figurine off the wedding cake and bit its head off. “It’s about you and I, Hammerjack.” Anthony was talking to the groom figurine. “It’s always been about you and I. For we are locked tight, tighter than any union you have ever had. And the union between you and I will not end until you hear those words again in your head – til death do us part.” Anthony crushed the groom doll with his boot.

2 -- RYAN GENESIS vs. KID FRESH

Masters said the ladies called Genesis a tattooed freak. That got an “oh my goodness” from Reno. Genesis powered out of Kid’s side headlock, clocked him with a clothesline and drove him into the mat with a sitout powerbomb.

WINNER: Genesis in 51 seconds. Properly devastating. That sitout powerbomb was sweet.

“The Bond Girl” Leah Hulan introduced Kristy Joslyn as the Grumpy’s Bail Bonds Agent of the Week. I was too mesmerized by Leah’s clevage to have any idea what they talked about.

Genesis called out Picture Perfect. Out they came. Reno said Genesis may have bitten off more than he could chew. Prophetic words, as Picture Perfect proceeded to give Genesis a fierce ass kicking. Reno said you don’t see beatdowns like that in Brentwood. Picture Perfect left Genesis laying with their neckbreaker/powerbomb combo.

Grumpy’s Bail Jumper of the Week - Leanna Kay Keamon. The girl is unemployed, always in trouble and has “8 years of paper”. Leah said shame on me for trusting her.

DKE promo. Haskins was so excited about the prospect of becoming a two time tag team champion. “This time I’m with the in crowd…Justin Bieber, take that!” King’s rapo about DKE being the best was upstaged by Haskins’ over-the-top crazed facial expressions.

3 – SAW Tag Team Title Match: DERRICK KING ENTERPRISES (Derrick King & Drew Haskins with Johnny Bandana & Sista O’Feelyah & Half Dolla) vs. Champions WOLFIE D & VORDELL WALKER

Wolfie & Walker attacked DKE before the bell and mopped the floor with them. They brawled through ringside tables. That woke the crowd up. As referee Kurt Herron was in the process of restoring order, Haskins hit a top rope slice ‘n dice leg drop on Wolfie that he barely kicked out of. Haskins went wild on Wolfie. Reno said “Teen Excitement” was on the radar of every wrestling promotion in the country. King got another close near fall with the Lawler haymaker. DKE cut the ring in half and dished out a beating. Wolfie had King pinned with a sunset flip but the DKE posse kept Herron distracted. Herron missed Wolfie’s tag and the mugging continued, until Wolfie hit a powerslam. Both men down. Hot tag to Walker, and DKE bumped huge for the suplex machine. King escaped from the Savannah slam. Walker went for a running forearm but King moved and Herron got decked. King leveled Walker with the “Sweet Beale Heel” superkick and went up top, but his bombs away knee missed. Wolfie missed with a swanton bomb. Haskins missed a shooting star press, leaving all four down plus the ref. Finally, Walker’s 450 splash connected on Haskins, but no ref in sight. An unidentified bald black guy in a “Thug’s Law” t-shit nailed Walker with a tire iron and tossed Herron back into the ring. Haskins pinned Walker with a one-armed cover.

WINNER: DKE to win the SAW tag titles in 9 minutes. Good action. The opening brawl got the crowd into the match. Finish was very similar to one DKE did with Big Dolla at the SAW Mill.

AFTERTHOUGHTS: This was the best of the three shows to come out of the June taping. All of the segments worked reasonably well with one exception. Over the last two episodes, SAW has done everything possible to rehabilitate Andrews status for Gallatin, short of putting the title on him. He came through with a quality title match last week, and Stevens was laying it on thick in his promo this week. It was interesting that SAW had Stevens disparage the big companies as sports entertainment. It’s not like SAW has superior wrestling talent, but they have nothing to lose by branding their product as “real” pro wrestling to set it apart. It was one of Stevens better promos and deserved a much better reaction. If only the Buffalo Billiard crowd had 1/10 of the passion he has for pro wrestling…Speaking of passion, who lit the fire under Reno’s butt? From that stellar opening to his unpredictable adlibs on commentary and his rah rah speech putting over his company, it’s been quite a while since we saw this Reno if ever…Wiilliams made an impressive debut. He’s a talented little guy. It will be interesting to see how he fares in a league where size isn’t much of a factor. In large part, it’s a smaller man’s league. Anthony is no giant but he still makes a great monster because he’s larger than everyone else on the roster. Anthony’s vignette was a briiliant follow up to last week. The scene with Anthony biting the head off the bride and talking to the groom doll was epic insanity, and precisely the type of thing that is missing from the vanilla PG world of WWE and the mindless blood-soaked blitz of TNA. Condsider this: the Anthony/Hammerjack Streetfight was March 13 and they haven’t had a match since. Yet, the feud is as vital as ever four months later. All through video updates and vignettes. The no nonsense squash by Genesis was just right. I’m not sure what the next segment was supposed to accomplish, though. Something was wrong with the staging. Piicture Perfect beat his ass. Genensis had no plan B. He’s brave but he ain’t superman and a top babyface need to be smarter than that. The main event made for a lot sronger closing than last week because they got the crowd into the match for a change. The next new episode should air on July 31 in Nashville feturing footage from Gallatin.
