By David Tees on 8/16/2010 7:47 PM
WEC Lightweight Division Fight

Danny “Last Call” Castillo (8-3-0) vs. Dustin Porier (7-0-0)

Danny Castillo has had an interesting run in the WEC, defeating Rafael Dias, Phil Cardello and Ricardo Lamas, while suffering defeats to Donald Cerrone, Shane Roller and Anthony Pettis. Danny Castillo also competed in the Gladiator Challenge promotion, defeating both Billy Terry and Gigo Jara. Danny Castillo started off his professional MMA career in impressive fashion, with a five fight undefeated streak that had lasted seven months. Of his eleven professional MMA fights, only one has gone to a decision for Danny Castillo, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. Danny Castillo will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with four victories coming by way of submission. Dustin Poirier is an undefeated fighter who will be making his World Extreme Cagefighting debut in this fight. Dustin Poirier is a veteran of the USA MMA promotion, where he defeated Aaron Suarez, Joe Torrez, Ronnie Lis and Derrick Krantz. It has been less than two months since Dustin Poirier last competed in a professional MMA fight, so conditioning could be a factor in the fight. Dustin Poirier will be entering the fight riding a seven fight undefeated streak, which has lasted over a full year. Dustin Poirier will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with four victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Danny Castillo

WEC Featherweight Division Fight

Fredson Paixao (9-3-0) vs. Bryan “Kid Lightning” Caraway (12-4-0)

Fredson Paixao has had an interesting run in the WEC, defeating Courtney Buck, losing to Wagnney Fabiano and fighting Cole Province to a no contest. Bryan Caraway is the significant other of Miesha Tate, who won the Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight Tournament. Bryan Caraway also competed in Strikeforce, defeating the duo of Alvin Cacdac and Alex Zuniga. In an interesting career note, this fight will mark the first time in over three years that Bryan Caraway has fought two times in a row in the same promotion. Bryan Caraway will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with eleven victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Bryan Caraway

Dave Jansen has had an interesting run in the WEC, defeating Rich Krunkilton and suffering a defeat to Kamal Shalorus. Dave Jansen has also fought in the M-1 Challenge promotion, defeating Flavio Alvaro, Ui Cheol Nam and Amirkhan Mazihov. Maciej Jewtuszko is an undefeated fighter who will be making his World Extreme Cagefighting debut in this fight. Maciej Jewtuszko is a veteran of the Beast Of The East promotion, defeating Grzegorz Tredowski and Edvardas Norkeliunas. Maciej Jewtuszko will be entering this fight riding a seven fight undefeated streak, which has lasted over four years. Despite competing in professional MMA for over four years, this fight will mark the North American MMA debut for Maciej Jewtuszko.
