LIVE THOUGHTS FROM FROM GLORY BY HONOR IX

By Zach Levine on 9/12/2010 4:27 PM

Awesome, awesome, awesome show. No other words can describe the ROH show last night in NYC. Top to bottom there wasn't a poor match on the card, and the crowd was super hot all night. I agree with Mike that hopefully next time they run the show in a bigger venue so fans do not get turned away, wish more people could get the chance to experience the show.

• First thing many people saw as they walked in was Shelton, Charlie and Terry Funk sitting together signing autographs, with Cornette on another side of the room. Pretty long lines for all.

• Bout five minutes before the show, the entire crowd started booing some fans who showed up wearing Nexus shirts. These guys actually got some of the wrestlers attentions during the show, but how can you miss three people wearing a bright yellow N in the middle of a crowd.

• Both of the King and Titus vs. Briscoe single matches were excellent. Knew they were both pretty good tag wrestlers, but both Briscoes were real solid in singles competition, and Kenny King was a nice surprise as well. Could be a nice singles star for the company if built up properly. And probably one of my favorite chants of the night was when Briscoe dropped King on his head in what looked like a semi-botch, and the crowd chanted "You Killed Kenny!"

• I liked the Balls and Grizz vs Stevens and Necro match. Necro came out wearing a Rays Longoria jersey for heat, and he actually wore the jersey the entire match. Some spots I liked included Balls smashing not one, not two, not three but four cups of beer over Stevens head, and Stevens gorilla pressing Grizzly over the top rope into the waiting fist of Necro. Nice little continuation of the last time these guys fought in NYC as well.

• The Cabanerico vs Steen and Corino match was simply insane. Too many great spots to mention. There was an amazing table spot where Steen pulled the chain connected to Generico and he flip dove through a table. Only problem was Steen couldn't get into the ring since he was locked to Generico, so Colby came out and untied the chain for him. Crowd was nice enough to chant "kill that kid" at Colby. Post match was pretty brutal, with Steen recreating his t-shirt using Generico's mask and Corino's blood. Not as gory as the Age of the Fall ladder segment from a few years ago, but still pretty sick. Def not PG my friends.

• Cornette's announcement about Davey Richards during intermission got a real nice sized pop as well. I've been to both NYC ROH shows this year, and Richards hasn't been at either, so I'm looking forward to Dec when he comes and gets a title opportunity in that iPPV.

• Daivari and Edwards put on a pretty solid match as well. Edwards has a great look and did a nice job working with Daivari. Post match it looked like Prince Nana was gonna lose it on Osiris, but maybe thats just what he does after every Embassy match, not too familiar with their work in all honesty.

• Great match between A Double and Daniels followed. Aries had a great promo beforehand, saying Daniels named Aries A Double, and Aries wanted to name Daniels CD, since both have outlived their usefulness. Ouch. But still a really good match that saw Aries pull out the 450 splash and Daniels pulling out a top rope Angels Wings for the win. No BME, but with that move how can you complain?

• Now the match that once I heard it was on the card I told my friend I had to go see the show - WGTT vs KOW. I went to the May Supercard of Honor show and thought the Guns vs. KOW had match of the year potential, but this everyone, this has MOTY written all over it. Just an awesome match, all the stops were pulled out. Only thing I was unhappy bout was the KOW didn't pull out the giant swing into a dropkick, but match still was 4-5 star quality. Haas and Benjamin looked like they haven't missed a beat, and both legit looked honored and real happy bout the crowd's warmth to them. There wasn't a quiet part of the match, it was 20 min of the fans chanting back and forth between Kings of Wrestling and Worlds Greatest Tag Team. Like Mike said earlier, this was summed up in a tweet from Shelton later that night that said it was the most fun hes had in 3 years. I really hope they come back, what a match.

• Lastly, Roddy vs Tyler was a great match, even though it felt like we all knew how it would end. Tyler got chants of NXT, Future Jobber, even FCW. Thought the best part of the match was him doing the You Can't See Me gesture at Roderick, followed by an STF. Might have gotten the most heat of the night. Funk looked like he was enjoying himself out there and put a beating on the House of Truth as well as Truth Martini, before Strong pulled out the win.

• Agreed on the Homicide part too. We really thought it was a technical glitch when Strong's music stopped and the lights went out. Fans went ballistic when Homicide's music came on. He looked so happy to be there too, and this sets up an interesting scenario for Final Battle. Cide said he wanted Strong at Final Battle for the belt, but Cornette said earlier Richards will get the title shot. My hope is that Daniels is thrown into the mix, and we have a four way between Strong, Homicide, Richards and Daniels, but we will see.

• So again, amazing night. Get the DVD when it comes out, and thanks to the guys in ROH for an amazing show. Kudos all around
