BE READY WHEN THE SH*T GOES DOWN: A SURVIVAL GUIDE TO THE APOCALYPSE BY FORREST GRIFFIN & ERICH KRAUSS BOOK REVIEW

By David Tees on 9/27/2010 8:14 PM
When you scan through the pages of this book, it becomes instantly clear that Forrest Griffin isn’t just training for MMA fights, but preparing for the apocalypse. One might assume that a survival guide to the apocalypse should only be written by survival experts, but Forrest Griffin and Erich Krauss do a decent job of apocalypse preparation.

Now, before you start thinking that this book lacks any humor and just features serious apocalypse preparation, you would be incorrect. Forrest Griffin approaches his apocalypse preparation with the same humor in which he approaches his manliness preparation in his first book, “Got Fight”, which was a New York Times bestseller.

Forrest Griffin begins the book by discussing what items you should be bringing in your apocalypse survival bag. Such items as toothpaste, sex toys, bottles of water and other items are suggested by Forrest Griffin to pack in your apocalypse bag. Forrest Griffin also suggest you practice your escape route when the apocalypse strikes, including both walking and driving routes.

One of the true highlights of this book is the section in which Forrest Griffin discusses the many ways in which an apocalypse can occur. Forrest Griffin discusses not just a religious apocalypse, but an economical apocalypse and mythical versions of apocalypses. While Forrest Griffin is known for his humorous writing, this section of the book shows the fighters intellectual side.

Just in case you thought the whole book was getting serious after this section, Forrest Griffin dives into a subject that should be thought of by every man. That subject is man on animal penetration, or more accurately, which animal would you want to have sex with? For those who are already wondering, Forrest Griffin chose a female deer as his post apocalypse sex partner.

Perhaps the funniest portion of the book is when Forrest Griffin discusses how he would build his post apocalypse utopia. Forrest Griffin also takes the time in this chapter to discuss how a person could start his own religion, while discussing his own religious beliefs. However, if you are a very religious person, this portion of the book could be found insulting by yourself or others.

Forrest Griffin also goes into detail on his idea for post apocalypse sports, primarily what he dubs as “elderly MMA.” Forrest Griffin in an odd way, mocks his own sport of MMA by talking about how he would speed things up during boring portions of a fight. Forrest Griffin also talks about which rules he would use if competitors were bound to wheelchairs or other assistance devices.

Overall, this book can be considered the humorous survival guide to the apocalypse and it definitely delivers on all fronts.
