By David Tees on 9/29/2010 8:35 PM
WEC Featherweight Division Fight

Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia (14-5-1) vs. Mark “The Machine” Hominick (18-8-0)

Leonard Garcia has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Victor Estrada, Hiroyuki Takaya, Jens Pulver, Jameel Massouh and Chan Sung Jung, while suffering defeats to Mike Brown and Manny Gamburyan. Leonard Garcia also competed in the UFC, defeating Allen Berube, while suffering defeats to Cole Miller and Roger Huerta. Leonard Garcia is one of a very small group of fighters in the WEC today that competed in the very first WEC event. Leonard Garcia is currently undefeated in 2010, defeating Chan Sung Jung and fighting George Roop to a draw. Leonard Garcia will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with nine victories coming by way of submission. Mark Hominick has had an interesting run in the WEC, defeating Bryan Caraway and Yves Jabouin, while suffering defeats to Rani Yahya and Josh Grispi. Mark Hominick also went undefeated in the UFC, defeating the duo of Jorge Gurgel and Yves Edwards. Mark Hominick is a longtime veteran of the TKO promotion, where twelve of his twenty six professional MMA fights occurred in. Mark Hominick will be entering the fight riding a three fight winning streak, which has lasted over two years. Mark Hominick will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with eight victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Mark Hominick

WEC Featherweight Division Fight

Chan Sung “The Korean Zombie” Jung (10-2-0) vs. Goerge Roop (10-6-1)

Chan Sung Jung is currently winless in WEC competition, having suffered a defeat to Leonard Garcia at WEC 48 in April 2010. Chan Sung Jung also competed in the Sengoku promotion, defeating Shintaro Ishiwatari and Matt Jaggers, while suffering a lone defeat to Masanori Kanehara. Despite competing in professional MMA for over three years, Chan Sung Jung didn’t make his North American MMA debut until WEC 48 against Leonard Garcia. Chan Sung Jung started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a nine fight undefeated streak that had lasted nearly two years. Chan Sung Jung will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with six victories coming by way of submission. George Roop is currently winless in WEC competition, having suffered a defeat to Eddie Wineland and fighting Leonard Garcia to a draw. George Roop also competed in the UFC, defeating David Kaplan, while suffering defeats to George Sotiropoulos and Shane Nelson. George Roop was a cast member of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8, which was won by both Efrain Escudero and Ryan Bader. It has been nearly a year since George Roop last won an MMA fight, which was in November 2009 over Matt Dell. George Roop will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with four victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Chan Sung Jung

Miguel Torres has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Jeff Bedard, Chase Beebe, Yoshihiro Maeda, Manny Tapia and Takeya Mizugaki, while suffering defeats to Brian Bowles and Joseph Benavidez. Manny Tapia is a former WEC Bantamweight Champion, as he defeated Chase Beebe at WEC 32 to win the title. Miguel Torres has had two huge winning streaks in his career, the first being twenty straight victories and the second being seventeen straight wins. Miguel Torres will be entering the fight trying to stop a two fight losing streak, which has lasted over a year. My Prediction: Miguel Torres

WEC Lightweight Division Fight

Jamie “C-4” Varner (16-3-1) vs. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (11-3-0)

Jamie Varner has had a successful run in the WEC, defeating Sherron Leggett, Rob McCullough, Marcus Hicks and Donald Cerrone, while suffering a lone defeat to Ben Henderson. Jamie Varner is a former WEC Lightweight Champion, having defeated Rob McCullough at WEC 32 to win the title. Jamie Varner also competed in the UFC, defeating Jason Gilliam and suffering a defeat to Hermes Franca. It has been nearly a year since Jamie Varner last won and MMA fight, with his last MMA victory coming over Donald Cerrone at WEC 38. Donald Cerrone also competed in the Ring Of Fire promotion, defeating Nate Mohr, Craig Tennant, Jesse Brock, Ryan Roberts and Anthony Njokuani. Donald Cerrone recently ran into issues with WEC management after making ill advised remarks towards Jamie Varner. Donald Cerrone is currently winless in 2010, having suffered a defeat to Ben Henderson at WEC 48 in April 2010. Donald Cerrone will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with ten victories coming by way of submission.

My Prediction: Jamie Varner

WEC Featherweight Title Fight

Jose “Junior” Aldo (17-1-0) (Champion) vs. Manny “Pitbull” Gamburyan (11-4-0)

Jose Aldo is currently undefeated in WEC competition, having defeated Alexandre Franca Nogueira, Jonathan Brookins, Rolando Perez, Chris Mickle, Cub Swanson, Mike Brown and Urijah Faber. Jose Aldo is the current WEC Featherweight Champion, having defeated Mike Brown at WEC 44 to win the gold. The lone loss in the MMA career of Jose Aldo came to Luciano Azevedo at a Jungle Fight event in November 2005. Jose Aldo will be entering the fight riding a ten fight winning streak, which has lasted well over four years. Jose Aldo will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with eleven victories coming by knockout. Manny Gamburyan is currently undefeated in WEC competition, having defeated John Franchi, Leonard Garcia and Mike Brown.
