By David Tees on 10/22/2010 10:28 PM
UFC Heavyweight Division Fight

Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga (11-5-0) vs. Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub (6-1-0)

Gabriel Gonzaga has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Kevin Jordan, Fabiano Scherner, Carmello Marrera, Mirko Cro Cop, Justin McCully, Josh Hendricks and Chris Tuchscherer, while suffering defeats to Randy Couture, Fabricio Werdum, Shane Carwin and Junior Dos Santos. Gabriel Gonzaga also competed in the Jungle Fight promotion, defeating Charlie Brown and suffering a defeat to Fabricio Werdum. Of his sixteen professional MMA fights, none have gone to a decision for Gabriel Gonzaga, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. Gabriel Gonzaga is currently winless in 2010, suffering a defeat to Junior Dos Santos at UFC On Versus 1. Gabriel Gonzaga will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with six victories coming by way of submission. Brendan Schaub has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Chase Gormley and Chris Tuchscherer, while suffering a defeat to Roy Nelson. Brendan Schaub made it to the finals of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10, which was coached by Rashad Evans and Quinton Jackson. Brendan Schaub also competed in the Ring Of Fire promotion, defeating Jay Lester, Alex Rozman and Bojan Spalevic. Brendan Schaub will be entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which has lasted over seven months. Brendan Schaub will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with all of his MMA victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Brendan Schaub

Matt Hamill was a contestant on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 3, which was won by both Kendall Grove and Michael Bisping. Ironically enough, the man who coached Matt Hamill on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 3 is his UFC 121 opponent, Tito Ortiz. Matt Hamill will be entering the fight riding a four fight winning streak, which has lasted well over a year. Matt Hamill will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with six victories coming by knockout. Tito Ortiz has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Wes Albritton, Jerry Bohlander, Guy Metzger, Wanderlei Silva, Yuki Kondo, Evan Tanner, Elvis Sinosic, Vladimir Matyushenko, Ken Shamrock, Patrick Cote, Vitor Belfort and Forrest Griffin, while suffering defeats to Guy Metzger, Frank Shamrock, Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Lyoto Machida and Forrest Griffin. Tito Ortiz will be entering the fight trying to stop a three fight losing streak, which has lasted nearly four years. Tito Ortiz will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with eight victories coming by knockout.

Brock Lesnar has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Heath Herring, Randy Couture, Frank Mir and Shane Carwin, while suffering a lone defeat to Frank Mir. Brock Lesnar is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, as he defeated Randy Couture at UFC 91 to win the title. The only other promotion Brock Lesnar has competed in was K-1 Hero’s, where he defeated Min Soo Kim. Brock Lesnar is a fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight ends up, with four victories coming by knockout and submission. Cain Velasquez has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Brad Morris, Jake O’Brien, Dennis Stojnic, Cheick Kongo, Ben Rothwell and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Of his eight professional MMA fights, only one has gone to a decision for Cain Velasquez, which speaks to his finishing abilities.
