RANDOM THOUGHTS ON WRESTLING, VOLUME II

By David Houston on 11/1/2010 8:47 PM
With so many shows happening so fast and so close together, things pop into my head and I thought here would be a good place to express them.

How long will it be before WWE pulls the plug on Randy Orton as a main eventer? His match with Wade Barrett is another subpar main event with Orton as the other half. This a month after Barrett had a pretty good match with John Cena at Hell In the Cell.

I'm happy to see Katie Lea in TNA, now known as Winter. But TNA should work harder to be the company that doesn't insult our intelligence or make their talent look dumb. You mean to tell me that Angelina Love never one time saw Katie Lea on WWE television? Not once? WWE could get away with that if they signed a former Knockout because they have the much larger audience but TNA can't do that with a former Diva.

Some people don't like TNA giving away gimmick matches on Impact instead of saving them for pay per views but I understand why they do it and, if it's done right, it can draw ppv buys. Take Ultimate X for example. Impact has over 1 million viewers while a TNA ppv probably draws less than 50,000 viewers. So letting the larger audience get to see an Ultimate X match or a Monster's Ball match could be an enticement the next time you hold one to buy the ppv it's featured on. But for that to work, the match should be kick-a** and not so full of swerves and angles that it hurts the gimmick, such as what happened with the Kazarian-Mr. Anderson U-X match on last week's Impact. It would have been a better and more representative of that particular gimmick if they let the Motor City Machine Guns and Generation Me finish their feud with an UX match for the tag titles.

TNA overdid the "Anderson has a concussion" angle this week but I do think they should have used it to explain why Anderson was going to be away for a while and definitely not working the pay per view. I think the way WWE has played with concussions and head injuries over the last couple years with Randy Orton and his punt and the Drew McIntyre-Matt Hardy feuds were more aggregation.

I don't know if Matt Morgan is the right guy to shoot into that spot. I know they're probably holding back Samoa Joe and RVD for later but Morgan's been playing a secondary role for an entire year and they even jobbed him to Jeff Jarrett in his first babyface match.

I like Team 3D staying but a large part of me was hoping they would leave TNA, opening the door for them to chase the last major tag title left: the Ring of Honor tag championship. I was looking forward to 3D-Briscoes, 3D-Kings of Wrestling, and/or 3D-Haas and Benjamin. But it's okay, I'll settle for 3D-GenMe and 3D-MCMGs. It's not entirely fair for political pundits and commentators to pick out WWE storylines and angles to use against Linda McMahon but I have no sympathy for the McMahons since they had to know that was coming and they still got involved in politics.

That's what's on my mind this week. Feedback is appreciated and can be sent to davidhgi@yahoo.com
