PREVIEWING THE UFC 123: RAMPAGE VS. MACHIDA SPIKE TV CARD

By David Tees on 11/18/2010 7:40 PM
UFC Middleweight Division Fight

Mark “The Philippine Wrecking Machine” Munoz (8-2-0) vs. Aaron “A-Train” Simpson (7-1-0)

Mark Munoz has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Nick Catone, Ryan Jensen and Kendall Grove, while suffering defeats to Matt Hamill and Yushin Okami. Mark Munoz also went undefeated in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion, defeating both Chuck Grigsby and Ricardo Barros. Mark Munoz came over to the UFC in 2009, after the WEC eliminated the light heavyweight division. Mark Munoz has had a successful 2010, winning two out of his three fights thus far this year, notably suffering a defeat to Yushin Okami. Mark Munoz will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with four victories coming by knockout. Aaron Simpson has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Tim McKenzie, Ed Herman and Tom Lawlor, while suffering a lone defeat to Chris Leben. Aaron Simpson also competed once in the WEC, but moved to the UFC after the WEC eliminated the middleweight division. In that lone fight in the WEC, Aaron Simpson defeated David Avellan by knockout in the fights opening round. Aaron Simpson has split both of his fights thus far in 2010, defeating Tom Lawlor and suffering a defeat to Chris Leben. Aaron Simpson will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with six victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Mark Munoz

UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Matt “The Immortal” Brown (11-9-0) vs. Brian Foster (14-5-0)

Matt Brown has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Matt Arroyo, Ryan Thomas, Pete Sell and James Wilks, while suffering defeats to Dong Hyun Kim, Ricardo Almeida and Chris Lytle. Matt Brown was a contestant on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 7, which was eventually won by Amir Sadollah. Matt Brown also competed in the Independent Event promotion, defeating Ricardo Martinez and Brian King. Matt Brown will be entering the fight trying to halt a two fight losing streak, which has lasted over six months. Matt Brown will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with six victories coming by knockout. Brian Foster has had an interesting run in the UFC, defeating Brock Larson and Forrest Petz, while suffering defeats to Rick Story and Chris Lytle. Brian Foster also competed in the Masters Of The Cage promotion, defeating Deric Harris, Jeff Davis and Steve Carl, while suffering defeats to Jeff Davis and Anthony Waldburger. Of his nineteen professional MMA fights, none have gone to a decision for Brian Foster, which speaks to his finishing abilities. Brian Foster has split both of his fights thus far in 2010, defeating Forrest Petz and suffering a defeat to Chris Lytle. Brian Foster will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with eight victories coming by knockout.

My Prediction: Brian Foster
