Round One: A Shocking Victory
Everybody knew heading into the UFC 123 main event that it would be Quinton Jackson’s charging force versus Lyoto Machida’s counter striking. However, the fight ended with controversy, at least in Rampage’s mind as Rampage defeated Lyoto Machida by unanimous decision. The post fight reaction by Quinton Jackson even caused anger within UFC President Dana White, who even stated that he felt Rampage won the fight. What was even more interesting is that the victorious Quinton Jackson offered an immediate rematch with Lyoto Machida, which was accepted.

Round Two: The Rubber Match = 21 Seconds
The first Matt Hughes/BJ Penn encounter lasted just under five minutes, while the second encounter when into the third round. The third and final encounter between Matt Hughes and BJ Penn went all but twenty one seconds, with Matt Hughes flat on his back. BJ Penn instantly finds himself in contention for another UFC Welterweight Title opportunity, if he is able to defeat Jon Fitch in 2011. As for Matt Hughes, there has been some talk swirling around after the fight that a retirement may happen.

Phil Davis was put on the UFC 123 card to give the fight an opportunity to grab some limelight in the ever growing UFC Light Heavyweight Division. Phil Davis took full advantage of the opportunity and forced a tap out from Tim Boetsch with an new submission hold. In fact, Joe Rogan deemed that the new submission hold used by Phil Davis on Tim Boetsch is going to be called the Mr. Wonderful. Phil Davis has now gotten himself into title contention after his victory, but it is in a very crowded division.

Round Four: Give Him A Title Shot Already
George Sotiropoulos has been on an amazing tear since making his UFC debut a while back and he now adds Joe Lauzon’s name to his list of victims. George Sotiropoulos even finished Joe Lauzon in the second round to shut up the fight who claimed that George Sotiropoulos doesn’t know how to finish opponents. After the fight, George Sotiropoulos said he wants an opportunity to compete again in Australia and Dana White is giving him his wish at UFC 127. As for Joe Lauzon, some time on the treadmill may help him out as he seemed gassed in the second round of the fight.

Round Five: The Heat Is Extinguished
Karo Parisyan has gone from one of the top MMA fighters in the world into a fighter who is a shell of his former self. After a year plus absence from UFC competition, UFC President Dana White gave Karo Parisyan a second chance at success, but Dennis Hallman had other plans. It only took less than two minutes for Dennis Hallman to destroy Karo Parisyan to knock him out of the UFC for good. However, one must still give Karo Parisyan a ton of credit for overcoming all of his personal demons to return to MMA action.
