CHIKARA: QUESTIONS FOR THE SEASON FINALE

Chikara: Questions for the Season Finale

Chikara ran shows in Easton and Philadelphia last weekend, and plenty of questions arise from those shows. As Chikara heads into their Season Finale (December 12 in Reading), certainly some of these questions will be answered, or at least, the answers will be closer to our grasp.

Man in the Cloak

Ultramantis Black has been leading the charge in the war against BDK. In Philadelphia, the leader of the Order of the Neo Solar Temple took on Ares, one half of the Campeones de Parejas, in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. During that match, Tursas came out to give Ares an advantage. Eventually, the two cloaked individuals that have been flanking Ultramantis Black came to ringside, revealed themselves to be Obariyon and Kodama and stood by Ultramantis’s side until they were summonsed (controlled?) to the back by another cloaked individual who appeared in the entryway. The major question is, of course, who is this individual and where does his/her allegiance lie? Is he/she an ally of BDK or just an another enemy of the Devious One?

Quack and Jigsaw Challenge for the Titles

Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw won their three points in the 4-Way Elimination Tag Match in Philadelphia. They will get their shot in Reading. Quackenbush has guaranteed that the next time he challenges for the Campeonatos de Parejas—his first challenge since April ’09—he will win the titles. Of course, in the war against the BDK, Quackenbush and Jigsaw have extra motivation to win the belts. They fight for the honor of Chikara against Ares, the masked man who threatened the war, and Claudio Castagnoli, the traitor who infiltrated the Chikara Wrestle Factory and got to Tim Donst, Lince Dorado, and Pinkie Sanchez during their training sessions. BDK has been preparing for war for years, and this will be a major battle.

The Returning Stars of the Past

A huge selling point of the show in Easton was the former stars who returned in various matches: Dragonfly, Jolly Roger, Rorschach, Mister Zero, Darkness Crabtree, Lance Steel, Buck Hawke, Max Boyer, etc. Before that in October, we saw the return of Larry Sweeney. Were these returns one-night attractions? Are these wrestlers pieces in a bigger puzzle that will be put together slowly? Or were they just to pop the longtime fans?

Bryce Remsburg

He’s the Senior Official of Chikara and a crowd favorite. He also works in DGUSA, Shimmer, and occasionally ROH. In Chikara, when he’s not officiating, he can typically be heard on commentary. Fans on the internet made some noise when, during the Blast from the Past match in Easton, he executed a senton onto the participants on the floor. He’s started selling 8x10 photos. On commentary, he’s clearly pro-Chikara and anti-BDK. Citing these impartial and unprofessional antics, Director of Fun Dieter VonStiegerwalt intimated in a recent blog on chikarapro.com that he will attempt to nominate a new Senior Official when the Board of Directors meet in December. The Board of Directors has hired an auditor, Wink Vavasseur, to assess VonSteigerwalt’s performance, and VonSteigerwalt wants Vavasseur to audit several others in the company. Will the Director of Fun be able to demote Remsburg? Who will be his chosen replacement?

The Season Finale is December 12 in Reading. Some of these questions will be answered then, but others will surely bleed over into Season 10.
