Kizarny?!
I mean, Kizarny?!
Chikara is very good at these surprises, because no one in the world should have been able to see this one coming. Also, if that surprise comes out of left field, Chikara does a really good job of explaining how the story comes together. Sinn Bodhi was revealed to be the man under the hood in November who called Obariyon and Kodama back. Ultramantis laid out his plan in a recent blog. With the untrustworthy Claudio Castagnoli at the Wrestle Factory, Ultramantis could not look there to recruit new minions. So he turned to Bodhi with the deal: help Ultramantis Black rebuild his army with the Eye of Tyr as payment. Ultramantis Black no longer has possession of the Eye, so Bodhi took his army—the Batiri—back. Some fans are already up in arms about Sinn Bodhi’s involvement, but I’ll reserve judgment until at least the Season 10 Premiere next month. I will admit, however, that if Sinn Bodhi plays up the shady carnival barker/sideshow freak, he could fit right in with the comic book world of Chikara.
And as interesting as Kizarny being the hooded figure is, more interesting to long-time Chikara fans should be Frightmare convincing Hallowicked to make the save. Can Hallowicked forgive his former partner and work with him for the good of Chikara? Can we get a new version of the Dark Breed? Ultramantis might not have his army, but he could do much worse than having Frightmare and Hallowicked on his good side.
The BDK had a rough December. All of them were action at the Season Finale, and only one won: Tim Donst. Delirious, Lince, and Pinkie lost in a trios match. Tursas got dropped on his head by Eddie Kingston. Del Rey and Haze lost to the Colony after Haze suffered a broken nose. The Chikara locker room banded together to neutralize the advantage the BDK tried to get before Castagnoli and Ares defended their Campeonatos de Parejas. And in the end, Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw won the Campeonatos. After that match, BDK ring announced Jakob Hammermeier received a stunner from Chikara announcer Gavin Loudspeaker. Now, in the after of Reality is Relative, Dieter VonSteigerwalt has been replaced as Director of Fun with the former auditor Wink Vavasseur. The Bruderschaft has to regroup and come back strong. The war is certainly not over yet.
I might be the only Chikara fan who was surprised that Quackenbush and Jigsaw won the titles. With all of the reminders of Stigma and Quackenbush having three points from years ago, I was certain that QuackSaw would lose, and Quack would have to turn to Stigma for the good of Chikara. But we go another direction. Now, Quackenbush and Jigsaw are champs, and there are currently three teams with two points. Surely, one of these teams will get their third point at the Season 10 premiere and challenge in February. Lince Dorado and Pink Ant have been holding two points since June, but both have been in a slump the last few months. The Colony got their second point in Reading now that Fire Ant’s face has healed. The aforementioned Batiri, Obariyon and Kodama, got their second point in November, and to me, they’re the most intriguing first challengers for QuackSaw.
Lastly, the next major step in the Chikara’s war against the BDK has to be Eddie Kingston vs. Claudio Castagnoli one on one. The feud between the War King and Claudio has simmered for years now. We thought it climaxed in Philadelphia in November, 2009, with a Respect Match, which Claudio won. Kingston refused to show respect, claiming that he knew the true Castagnoli and the true Castagnoli doesn’t deserve respect. Later that night, Claudio revealed his involvement in the Bruderschaft, effectively proving Kingston’s point. Claudio has been ducking Kingston’s challenge all year, blindsiding him on numerous occasions. Now, with BDK representative Dieter VonSteigerwalt no longer Director of Fun, Castagnoli might be forced to face Kingston head-on sooner than later.
Chikara returns to Philadelphia for the Season 10 Premiere, “Chaos in the Seas of Lost Souls,” on January 23 at the Asylum Arena.
