COMPLETE DETAILED PREVIEW OF CHIKARA RETURN TO PHILADELPHIA FOR SEASON TEN PREMIERE
By Joshua Higham on 1/15/2011 9:45 AM
Chikara presents the Season 10 Premiere, “Chaos in the Sea of Lost Souls” Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Asylum Arena in South Philly, PA. Belltime is 4pm.
For Chikara, 2010 ended with quite a few questions that need to be answered this year. Have we seen the start of the BDK’s crumble or just a valley in their continued ascension? What will Sinn Bodhi taking back the Batiri mean for the future of Ultramantis Black? Who will be first to earn the right to challenge Quackenbush and Jigsaw? Will any trios team emerge as the favorite for the upcoming King of Trios tournament?
Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw and The Colony (Fire Ant and Soldier Ant) vs. The BDK (Claudio Castagnoli, Ares, Delirious, and Tim Donst)
The new Campeones de Parejas team with the pair who lost the belts to the BDK in atomicos action against the former Campeones, Ares’ pet, and the hottest member of the BDK. The self-proclaimed greatest Young Lion Cup champion ever is the only member of the BDK on a hot streak and has been their MVP the past few months. Castagnoli and Ares want some revenge from losing their titles in Reading last month. The BDK will need to bounce back after a horrible end to 2010. The Colony should still be looking for revenge after losing both the Campeones de Parejas and the King of Trios finals to the BDK.
The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield and Sugar Dunkerton) vs. The Roughnecks (Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood)
Dasher Hatfield defeated Brodie Lee in October. The next night, Grizzly Redwood defeated Dasher Hatfield. The reunited Roughnecks attacked the Throwbacks in Philadelphia in November. Then, Dasher cradled Grizzly for a tag team win in December, but The Throwbacks attacked after the match. Grizzly stole Dasher’s beloved baseball bat and turned it into toothpicks, This feud has been brewing for the past few months, and it will escalate again in January. Which team will take the next step and maybe get a little closer to challenging for the Campeonatos de Parejas?
Da Soul Touchaz vs. The BDK (Tursas, Sara Del Rey, and Lince Dorado)
Da Soul Touchaz have declared war on the Bruderschaft. Despite not qualifying for King of Trios 2010, Da Soul Touchaz defeated the reigning tournament winners (Tursas, Ares, and Castagnoli) last June before defeating another trios combination (Dorado, Tursas, and Donst) in Brooklyn and teaming with Sugar Dunkerton to defeat an atomicos combination (Ares, Haze, Sanchez, and Tursas) in Easton. The next night in Philadelphia, the BDK struck back by eliminating C-Red and Dymond, the Da Soul Touchaz’s manager and valet. Now, the combination of Marshe Rockett, Acid Jaz, and Willie Richardson vow to go after the Bruderschaft head on.
Eddie Kingston vs. El Generico
Billed as a first time ever match, the Ace of Chikara, the “War King” Eddie Kingston will take on the Generic Luchador, continuing to do battle with the best the indies have to offer: Bryan Danielson, Tommy Dreamer, Chris Daniels, and now El Generico. Kingston will try to capitalize on his big 2010 on his way to the inevitable battle with Claudio Castagnoli. If it’s not the BDK in his way, Kingston’s had some heavy competition.
Ultramantis Black vs. Sinn “Kizarny” Bodhi
Sinn Bodhi was revealed to be the chosen trainer of Ultramantis Black’s new army. In November when Sinn Bodhi didn’t get his payment, he took his pupils—Obariyon and Kodama—back. In December, the pupils—Obariyon, Kodama, and a third masked man—attacked the leader of the Order of the Neo Solar Temple. Incoherence made the save, putting Hallowicked and Ultramantis Black on the same side just moments after facing each other. The war between Bodhi and Ultramantis is just starting.
Incoherence (Hallowicked and Frightmare) vs. The Batiri (Obariyon and Kodama)
In December, Frightmare convinced Hallowicked to save Ultramantis Black from Sinn Bodhi and the Batiri. Now, it looks like they are embroiled in this burgeoning war. An added wrinkle is that the Batiri has two points and could become the first challengers to Quack and Jigsaw’s reign as Campeones de Parejas. If Incoherence can stop them, they’ll have two points and another step closer to challenging. The Batiri have proven themselves to be impressive rookies, and they may have that little goblin in their corner wreaking havoc.
Madison Eagles vs. Daizee Haze
The Shimmer Champion, Madison Eagles, returns to Chikara for the first time since 2008 to take on Daizee Haze. Haze has been on somewhat of a slump the past few months, including losing the 3 points she and Death Rey accumulated to Quack and Jigsaw in November and breaking her nose in December against the Colony. Haze will have a tall task—man, I can’t believe I used that pun—in the form of Madison Eagles, who will stand almost a foot taller than The Haze.
The Osirian Portal and Jonathan Gresham vs. FIST (Johnny Gargano, Icarus, and Chuck Taylor)
New Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur introduced the Osirian Portal to Jonathan Gresham, a young rookie starting to make his name in Combat Zone Wrestling and other East Coast promotions. In December the Osirian Portal combined with Gresham and got the win over a contingent of the BDK. Their next challenge is the first team entered into the 2011 King of Trios: Team FIST. FIST is still trying to find itself as a trio after ditching Gran Akuma for Johnny Gargano.
