CHIKARA SEASON TEN KICKOFF LIVE REPORT FROM PHILADELPHIA, PA

By Joshua Higham on 1/24/2011 10:57 AM

Chikara kicked off Season 10 with their return to the Arena in Philadelphia.

The Osirian Portal vs FIST started with a dance-off to Lady Gaga's Poker Face between Icarus and Amasis until Bryce Remsburg joined in. Jonathan Gresham has officially been transformed into a member of the Portal was a falcon-inspired mask and the name, Hieracon. Gargano wrestled most of the match wearing a fan's sock monkey hat. After 18 minutes, Hieracon got the pin on Icarus after his version of a swinging neckbreaker.

Madison Eagles, announced as the PWWA Champion, which is her home promotion in Australia, took on Daizee Haze next. Eagles used her height and leverage advantage until Daizee faked re-breaking her nose. Just as Eagles regained the advantage, Daizee countered out of Hellbound and hit a German suplex for the win.

They showed a video which, to me, intimated the creation of a new championship. That's just my guess. After footage of some wrestlers (Colony and BDK among others), a shape similar to the Campeonato de Parejas appeared with "It's Time" on the screen.

The Roughnecks vs The Throwbacks got off to a hot start. Dasher Hatfield got a big boot on the floor by Brodie Lee, which kept him out of most of the contest, leaving his partner to fight most of the match. At the end, Brodie Lee hit a doctor bomb on Sugar Dunkerton on the ring steps and then a big boot to Dasher who was on Grizzly's shoulder to get the pin.

Da Soul Touchaz took on the BDK trio of Lince Dorado, Sara Del Rey, and Tursas. No dancing for the Da Soul Touchaz as they hit the ring on fire. Derek Sabato was ref, but no fast counts from him. A lot of blind spots to give BDK an advantage, though. The BDK got the win when Lince Dorado took off his mask, threw it to Willie Richardson, which got Da Soul Touchaz DQed. Post-match, Dorado got a Pounce for his trouble.

Short intermission (seriously, shorter than any Chikara show I've been to before).

The second half started with the Batiri vs Incoherence. Kodama seemed to have hurt his left arm early on and clutched at it for the rest of the match. Halfway through the match, circus music hit, and Sinn Bodhi and the masked goblin came to ringside and attacked Frightmare. Ultramantis Black—wearing orange to match Incoherence—came out trying to even the numbers, but Obariyon hit Hallowicked with his leaping DDT off the top to get the win (and three points).

Ultramantis Black vs Kizarny started soon after the tag match when Derek Sabato ran in and called for the opening bell. The Batiri and Incoherence were still at ringside, but the match ended quickly when the Batiri attacked. Derek Sabato allowed it to happen until he saw Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur looking on and finally called for the DQ. Ultramantis grabbed a mic and challenged Sinn Bodhi and his Dark Army to trios action next month. Sinn Bodhi may or may not have accepted since he was speaking in double team and carny.

Eddie Kingston vs El Generico was next. This match was absolutely brutal. Tons of strikes, kicks, and dropping each other on their heads. Destroyed each other. Kingston finally got the win with two backdrop drivers and two Backfists to the Future in about 18 minutes. Kingston embraced Generico in a show of respect after the match.

They then had the raffle and showed a fantastic video hyping the King of Trios in April.

Atomicos main event as Fire Ant, Soldier Ant, Mike Quackenbush, and Jigsaw take on the BDK contigent of Tim Donst, Delirious, Claudio Castagnoli, and Ares. After twenty minutes, Jigsaw hit a double stomp off the top on to Tim Donst to get the win to close the show. Typical Chikara fast paced action. Jigsaw was the face in distress for most of the match.

Notes: They did a live Preshow-a-GoGo that aired live on UStream, but whatever happened couldn't be heard in the building.  It was hosted by Dr. Keith Lipinski and featured interviews with the Throwbacks, Team FIST, Ultramantis Black, and the main event atomicos team of Jigsaw, Mike Quackenbush, and the Colony... Atlas Security was in the house keeping the peace... Delirious scared a little kid in the front row. It was humorous.
