STRIKEFORCE: FEDOR VS. SILVA PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/10/2011 11:05 AM
In what could potentially be described as the biggest heavyweight tournament in North America kicks off on Saturday Night with the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. However, before the heavyweight action kicks off though, we have a ton of great preliminary card fights. As a bonus for MMA fans though, all five preliminary card fights will be broadcast live on HDNet at 8pm EST.

Kicking off the Strikeforce preliminary card will be a featherweight bout as Jason McLean (5-3-0) takes on Kevin “K-Rod” Roddy (9-11-1). This will be the first fight of 2011 for Jason McLean, who has split the two fights he had in the Ring Of Combat promotion. Despite the losing record, Kevin Roddy has fought top notch MMA competition in UFC Lightweight Division contender Jim Miller. Kevin Roddy has plethora of experience when compared to Jason McLean, who will be tapped out by Kevin Roddy.

More featherweight action continues next as Josh LaBerge (7-4-0) does battle with Anthony Leone (8-2-0). Josh LaBerge is coming off a successful run in the Bellator Fighting Championships, where he defeated both Chris Simmons and Dan Bonnell. Anthony Leone also has some big fight experience, competing in the WEC in a losing effort to Renan Do Nascimento Moto Pegado. This fight is going to be an exciting one, which Anthony Leone is going to win with a submission victory.

We move up to a weight class next as we go to the lightweight division, where Don Carlo-Clauss (6-3-0) takes on Sam Oropeza (4-1-0). Don Carlo-Clauss has been competing in professional MMA for a little over two years, recently losing to John Benoit at a Combat Zone event. Sam Oropeza is coming off a short run in the King Of The Cage promotion, winning one of two fights in the promotion. Expect Sam Oropeza to come away with the victory as he is the superior fighter on the ground, where Don Carlo-Clauss is the weakest.

A welterweight duel is up next as Igor Gracie (2-2-0) represents the famous Gracie Family against John “Greco” Salgado (4-4-1). Igor Gracie hasn’t competed in a professional MMA fight in well over a year, but has competed in the Bellator Fighting Championships. John Salgado recently came off the biggest MMA fight of his career, losing to Elite XC veteran Chris Ligouri. This fight is easily a fight that Igor Gracie can win, which he should do by submission in the fights opening round.

Headlining this HDNet card will be a lightweight duel as John Cholish (5-1-0) takes on Marc Stevens (12-5-0). John Cholish will be entering the fight riding a five fight winning streak, recently earning a victory in the Ring Of Combat promotion. Despite being the more experienced fight, Marc Stevens has not competed in a professional MMA fight in well over a year. That layoff will be to the detriment of Marc Stevens, who will be defeated by John Cholish in this encounter.
