FIVE ROUNDS WITH STRIKEFORCE: FEDOR VS. SILVA

By David Tees on 2/14/2011 10:22 PM
When a legend falls, that legend will fall hard and that has become especially true with MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko. Antonio Silva now joins Fabricio Werdum as the only two fighters to truly defeat Fedor Emelianenko in his professional MMA career. Also, a former UFC Heavyweight Champion goes down hard and two fighters earn a Strikeforce promotion.

Round One: The King Has Fallen For more than a decade, Fedor Emelianenko destroyed his way through every MMA fighter who stood across from him to become the undisputed king of MMA. Now that status is in serious doubt after Fedor Emelianenko suffered the second straight loss of his MMA career. Antonio Silva also made himself into a star now after utterly destroying the legend in two rounds of MMA action. Antonio Silva has now transformed from an Elite XC cast off into a major player in both Strikeforce and MMA in general.

Next Round For Antonio Silva: The winner of Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum

Next Round For Fedor Emelianenko: Possible retirement or an alternate in the grand prix

Round Two: The Pitbull Has Been Tamed

At one point in time, Andrei Arlovski was considered to be one of the most dangerous heavyweight fighters in all of MMA. However, it has especially become evident after being knocked out by Sergei Kharitonov this past Saturday Night that there is something wrong with the former champ. With four straight losses in MMA competition, one most think that it may be time for Andrei Arlovski to call it a career. As for Sergei Kharitonov, the Russian fighter couldn’t have made a more impressive debut by destroying the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Next Round For Sergei Kharitonov: The winner of Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers

Next Round For Andrei Arlovski: Retirement

Round Three: Promotions Were Earned Outside of Tyron Woodley, there has been one other major standout of the Strikeforce Challengers Series, Shane Del Rosario. Shane Del Rosario got his first chance on the bigger stage this past Saturday Night and tapped out heavyweight standout Lavar Johnson. Chad Griggs also earned himself a promotion to remain on the bigger shows, as he defeated Gian Villante on the same card. Chad Griggs is also responsible for sending Bobby Lashley back to pro wrestling after defeating him on a Strikeforce card this past Summer.

Next Round For Shane Del Rosario: Chad Griggs or Valentijn Overeem

Next Round For Chad Griggs: Lolohea Mahe, Shane Del Rosario or Lavar Johnson

Next Round For Lavar Johnson: Strikeforce Challengers Series

Next Round For Gian Villante: Dropping to the light heavyweight division

Round Four: Brother, Brother, Brother!

It took a little longer than expected, but Valentijn Overeem finally made his Strikeforce debut this past Saturday Night. For those who don’t know, Valentijn Overeem is the brother of current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem. Valentijn Overeem made the successful transition to Strikeforce by tapping out Ray Sefo in under two minutes. What is even more interesting about Valentijn Overeem is that he stated that he would fight his own brother in the grand prix, if necessary.

Next Round For Valentijn Overeem: Chad Griggs or Lavar Johnson

Next Round For Ray Sefo: Learning the ground game

Round Five: The Reach Is Growing The UFC has been notorious in recent months for airing fights on pay-per-view, broadcast TV, Facebook and even their own website. Strikeforce has been slowly creeping up on the UFC in terms of getting more fights aired in other methods. During recent events, Strikeforce has aired their preliminary card on both HDNet and the Sherdog website. As a whole, this is a great plus for all MMA fans because there will be more fights for everybody to watch.
