UFC 127: PENN VS. FITCH PAY-PER-VIEW CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/25/2011 6:50 PM
The question of “who is next for Georges St. Pierre” may be answered on Saturday Night as BJ Penn faces Jon Fitch at UFC 127. Also, top lightweights will meet as George Sotiropoulos takes on Dennis Siver and Michael Bisping meets Jorge Rivera. For the Australian fans, countrymen like Kyle Noke and the aforementioned George Sotiropoulous will compete.

Headlining this top level card is a welterweight duel as Jon Fitch (23-3-0) does battle with BJ “The Prodigy” Penn (16-7-1). Since losing to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87, Jon Fitch has gone on a five fight winning streak that includes a victory over Thiago Alves. BJ Penn has lost twice to Georges St. Pierre, but is only the second man in the UFC to hold belts in two different weight classes. This fight is going to come down to whether or not BJ Penn can stop Jon Fitch’s takedowns, I bet that he cannot.

In the co-main event, middleweights will go to war as Michael “The Count” Bisping (20-3-0) takes on Jorge “El Conquistador” Rivera (19-7-0). Michael Bisping is the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 3 and has now won two straight in the UFC following the loss to Wanderlei Silva. Jorge Rivera has been on a career resurgent path in the UFC, notching victories over Nissen Osterneck, Rob Kimmons and Nate Quarry. This battle is ripe with an upset vibe lately, but Michael Bisping will spoil everybody’s party as he defeats Jorge Rivera.

Lightweights are up next as George Sotiropoulos (14-2-0) takes on Dennis Siver (17-7-0) in a key battle in the division. George Sotiropoulos has been on an amazing seven fight winning streak in the UFC, notably defeating Joe Stevenson and Joe Lauzon. Dennis Siver is coming odd the biggest win in his UFC run, defeating Andre Winner at UFC 122 in his home country of Germany. While Dennis Siver is an amazing striker, he doesn’t have enough on the ground to stop George Sotiropoulos from tapping him out.

A pair of exciting welterweights will do battle next as Chris “Lights Out” Lytle (30-17-5) takes on Brian “Bad Boy” Ebersole (46-14-1). Chris Lytle has been making a case for a UFC Welterweight Title shot with this current four fight winning streak, which includes a victory over former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra. Brian Ebersole will be making his UFC debut as a replacement for Carlos Condit, who pulled out of the fight after a training camp injury. The lack of preparation time is what’s eventually going to cost Brian Ebersole the fight against the rolling Chris Lytle.

Kicking off the evening will be a middleweight clash as Chris Camozzi (14-3-0) takes on Australian fighter Kyle “KO” Noke (18-4-1). Chris Camozzi is undefeated in UFC competition with victories over both James Hammortree and Dongi Yang. Kyle Noke is also undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated the duo of Josh Bryant and Rob Kimmons. Kyle Noke is a more well-rounded fighter than Chris Camozzi, which will be enough to give the fighter a victory.
