BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 35 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/2/2011 10:12 PM
The highly anticipated fourth season of the Bellator Fighting Championships kicks off this Saturday Night featuring the start of the BFC Welterweight Tournament. This tournament will feature a former BFC Welterweight Champion, Strikeforce veteran and past tournament finalist. Before the tournament action can kick off, there is a four fight preliminary card that will take place.

Kicking off the evening will be a bantamweight encounter as Jesus Castro (0-1-0) takes on the debuting Paul Ruiz (0-0-0). Jesus Castro hasn’t competed in an MMA fight in over three years, so his little bit of experience will not mean much in this fight. Paul Ruiz will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but has fought many times on the amateur circuit. Despite this being his professional MMA debut, Paul Ruiz has been more active in combat sports and that will help him get the victory.

Up next is going to be a featherweight contest as Josh Herrick (6-1-0) faces off with Brandon Bender (7-0-0). Josh Herrick will be making his BFC debut in this fight, but does so riding a three fight winning streak. Brandon Bender is also going to be making his BFC debut in this fight and has only seen one of his seven fights go past the opening round. This fight should make for an interesting ground battle and this one is a battle that will be won by Brandon Bender.

A battle of catchweight fighters will take place next as Waachiim Spiritwolf (8-7-1) takes on Jaime “El Cucui” Jara (29-8-0). Waachiim Spiritwolf has been riding a two fight losing streak, but does hold a victory over UFC veteran Crafton Wallace. Jaime Jara will be making his BFC debut in this fight, but recently saw his eight fight winning streak come to an end at the hands of Jay Silva. This fight will be a slugfest and it will be won by Jaime Jara, but this will be a slugfest any way a person looks at it.

Headlining the preliminary card will be a non-title fight as BFC Women’s Welterweight Champion Zoila “Warrior Princess” Frausto (10-1-0) takes on Karina Hallinan (3-4-0). Zoila Frausto won the BFC Women’s Welterweight Title when she defeated Megumi Fujii, which was considered one of the biggest upsets of 2010 in MMA. Karina Hallinan already suffered a defeat to Zoila Frausto over two years ago and enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak. While this fight is a revenge fight of sorts, history will still be repeating itself as Zoila Frausto again defeats Karina Hallinan.
