BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 35 TELEVISED CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/3/2011 1:48 PM
The UFC has a home in Spike TV, Strikeforce has a home in Showtime and now, Bellator Fighting Championships has a home on MTV2. The Bellator Fighting Championships will be making its debut on MTV2 in style with the beginning of the welterweight tournament. Also, this event will be marking the first time ever that Bellator Fighting Championships has gone head to head with Strikeforce on the same evening.

Headlining this card will be a BFC Welterweight Tournament Quarterfinal fight as “Judo” Jim Wallhead (21-5-0) takes on Rick Hawn (9-0-0). Jim Wallhead qualified for the tournament in late 2010 when he defeated UFC Ryan Thomas at BFC 32 this past October. Rick Hawn also qualified for the tournament in late 2010, plus he holds a victory over UFC veteran Shonie Carter. This fight is going to be a battle of judo experts and Rick Hawn has the better judo skills to keep his undefeated streak alive.

Up next is another BFC Welterweight Tournament Quarterfinal bout as Anthony “The Recipe” Lapsley (19-4-0) battles Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron (19-4-0). Anthony Lapsley is entering the fight riding a four fight winning streak and has a win in the lone Moosin: God Of MMA pay-per-view. Jay Hieron is a well-traveled MMA veteran who has competed in all the major promotions like the UFC, Strikeforce and International Fight League. Although the records are identical, Jay Hieron is the far superior fighter and it will show as he defeats Anthony Lapsley on Saturday Night.

The next encounter is a BFC Welterweight Tournament Quarterfinal attraction as Chris “The Assassin” Lozano (6-0-0) faces Lyman “Cyborg” Good (10-1-0). Chris Lozano enters the tournament after pulling the shocking upset over UFC veteran Yoshiyuki Yoshida at BFC 31. Lyman Good is a former BFC Welterweight Champion, who lost the title to Ben Askren at BFC 33. While Chris Lozano is definitely a talented fighter, but he will not be pulling a second upset in a row over Lyman Good.

Kicking off the evening will be a BFC Welterweight Quarterfinal Fight as Brent Weedman (17-5-1) duels with Dan “The Handler” Hornbuckle (22-3-0). Brent Weedman has been undefeated thus far in BFC, including a victory over Strikeforce veteran Rudy Bears. Dan Hornbuckle made it to the finals of the second BFC Welterweight Tournament before losing to Ben Askren in the finals. Dan Hornbuckle is a top ten welterweight in MMA right now and he will show why as he defeats Brent Weedman.
