STRIKEFORCE: FEIJAO VS. HENDERSON TELEVISED CARD REVIEW

By David Tees on 3/4/2011 1:41 PM
Capping off an exciting four day festival off MMA action that included the UFC and Bellator Fighting Championships will be Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson. This event will feature two title fights in the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Division and Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight Division. Also, two internationally acclaimed fighters and the big show debut of an exciting welterweight contender.

Headlining this card will be a Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Title fight as Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (10-2-0) defends against Dan “Hendo” Henderson (26-8-0). Rafael Cavalcante won the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Title in August 2010 when he defeated King Mo by TKO. Dan Henderson earned himself an opportunity at the title when he defeated Renato Sobral at Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu II. This is a battle of two very good strikers, but Dan Henderson is the better all-around fighter and he will walk away with the gold.

The co-main event will be a Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight Title defense as Marloes “Rumina’ Coenen (18-4-0) defends against Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche (5-0-0). Marloes Coenen won the title when she defeated the previously undefeated Sarah Kaufman at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II. Liz Carmouche is undefeated in Strikeforce competition, having defeated both Colleen Schneider and Jan Finney. Despite being a worthy challenge, Liz Carmouche doesn’t have the skill set yet to defeat a top submission fighter like Marloes Coenen.

Up next is a middleweight encounter as Tim Kennedy (12-3-0) takes on international star Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef (24-8-1). Tim Kennedy is coming off a loss to current Strikerforce Middleweight Champion Ronaldo Souza at Strikeforce: Houston. Melvin Manhoef is one of the more dominant fighters in the international scene right now, but has lost two straight. While Tim Kennedy is a prospect on the rise, but Melvin Manhoef is way too good a striker to lose this one.

Kicking off the evening will be a welterweight encounter as Billy Evangelista (11-0-0) takes on Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (20-6-0). Billy Evangelista earned his way up to the bigger Strikeforce cards after winning six straight fights on the smaller Strikeforce events. Jorge Masvidal is coming off an appearance at the lone Shark Fights pay-per-view, losing to UFC veteran Paul Daley. This fight should be an entertaining brawl and it is going to be a brawl that Billy Evangelista will win.
