CHIKARA NATION: PREVIEWING THE BIG RETURN TO BROOKLYN, NY ON SUNDAY

By Joshua Higham on 3/8/2011 2:34 AM
Chikara presents “Creatures from the Tar Swamp” Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Warsaw in Brooklyn, NY. Belltime is 4 pm.
A month before the King of Trios tournament, Chikara returns to the Warsaw in Brooklyn. This show will sell out. It’s a beautiful space for wrestling, but it’s small. The room will be packed, and the atmosphere will be awesome. If you’ve never been to a Chikara event, this would be a great first for you.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Eddie Kingston

This is finally happening. The feud years in the making will culminate at the Warsaw. It is personal. This was supposed to end in November 2009 in a Respect Match. Claudio won that match, but Eddie Kingston still refused to give Castagnoli his due respect, claiming he knew the true Castagnoli. Kingston was vindicated later that night, when Claudio turned on Chikara with the revelation of the BDK. Throughout 2010, Kingston vowed to go through the BDK until he got his hands of Castagnoli again. They’ve faced off in a tag match, the Countdown Showdown, and the Dark Ciberknetico. Now, it’s finally one on one: no partners to tag, no sneak attacks, just Eddie and Claudio face to face.

Campeonatos de Parejas: Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw vs. The Colony (Fire Ant and Soldier Ant)

The Colony gained their third point in Easton, defeating Claudio Castagnoli and Tursas. These two teams were partners in atomicos action back in January, but now they will be facing off for the Campeonatos. It’s Quack and Jig’s second defense, going against the former campeones who lost the belts to the Bruderschaft last March. Could the Colony become the first two-time campeones and roll into the King of Trios with the gold?

Young Lions Cup: Frightmare vs. Obariyon

Obariyon debuted last year at the Young Lions Cup events in August. These two were in different brackets so they never met in that tournament, but they’re no strangers to each other. They’re both in the middle of the feud between Ultramantis Black and Sinn Bodhi so they’re no strangers, facing off in tag and trios actions in the past. Frightmare fell to the Flying DDT in January, and so far, no one has gotten up from Obariyon’s Flying DDT yet. If Frightmare wins, it will be his record breaking sixth defense. If Obariyon wins, it would be a major boost as he heads into King of Trios.

Ultramantis Black vs. Sinn Bodhi

This business deal gone bad will meet in the ring again in Brooklyn. Their first meeting, in January, ended quickly as the Batiri attacked shortly after the opening bell. When Ultramantis challenged Kizarny for a trios match in February, Kizarny sent the Batiri and Kobald in his place. Now, in Brooklyn, they will face off again in singles action, but surely, Kizarny will have Kodama and Kobald in his corner. Ultramantis Black might be wise to have Incoherence lurking in the wings somewhere.

Lumberjack Match: The Throwbacks vs The Roughnecks

This feud has been brewing since last fall. And in a perfectly logical progression, lumberjacks will surround the ring as the Littlest Lumberjack and the Big Rig take on The Old Timey King of Swing and The Ball Hog. This issue should be settled in the ring with members of the Chikara roster around the ring. Both teams have one point and this match will be a step closer to challenging for the Campeonatos de Parejas.

The Osirian Portal vs. The BDK (Tim Donst, Lince Dorado, and Pinkie Sanchez)

The new Osirian Portal has been on a roll since Jonathan Gresham transformed into Hieracon. Undefeated in trios, the Osirian Portal are becoming possible favorites for King of Trios, but before the tournament, they will face a trio representing the Bruderschaft. Tim Donst will captain a team for the BDK in the tournament, and this match may be an audition of sorts for his partners from last year’s tournament.

Toshie Uematsu vs. Sara Del Rey

A night after facing the current Shimmer champion, Toshie Uematsu will face off against Death Rey, the first Shimmer champion. It could end up being a very long weekend for Uematsu, facing two of the top female independent wrestlers today.

3.0 vs. The Unstable

They got into each other’s business in February with the Unstable costing 3.0 their three points in the elimination match in Easton. They meet the night before in Williamsport in atomicos action, but that’s not enough. Both teams want to challenge for the Campeonatos de Parejas, and both are at zero points. So they’re going to have to go through each other on their way to getting three points.

Jakob Hammermeier vs. Green Ant

After months of abuse, the resident ring announcer for the BDK went to Claudio Castagnoli and Ares and requested to be trained to compete. A recent video update had Castagnoli saying Jakob might be ready for a rookie, so enter Green Ant, the least experienced of the Colony. Green Ant has yet to win a match since returning from his arm injury, so a win would do him well going into King of Trios. Could Jakob get a win in his first match? Or will Green Ant experience advantage—one of the first times he can say that—get him the win?
