BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 36 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/10/2011 5:00 PM
The first event of Season 4 was a huge success last week on MTV2, featuring a controversial ending in the battle between Jay Hieron and Anthony Lapsley. The second events of the season takes place this Saturday Night featuring the start of the BFC Lightweight Tournament. However, the preliminary card will take place first and it will feature a pair of undefeated competitors.

Kicking off the evening will be a lightweight encounter as Kelvin Hackney (9-1-0) takes on Josh Shockley (6-0-0). Kelvin Hackney enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak and has even competed against top ranked lightweight fighter Junior Assuncao. It has been well over a year since Josh Shockley last competed in an MMA fight, but he has a six fight undefeated streak. The long layoff is going to hurt Josh Shockley, as Kelvin Hackney will defeat him with his superior striking skills.

Up next is a featherweight encounter featuring two debuting fighters as Javone Duhon (0-0-0) takes on Booker Arthur (0-0-0). Javon Duhon will be making his professional MMA debut after having only one amateur MMA fight, which is a rare move. Booker Arthur has plenty of experience on the amateur MMA circuit, winning eight of nine fights as an amateur. Although amateur experience doesn’t mean much in professional MMA, Booker Arthur will still use that experience to defeat his opponent.

The next fight is another featherweight encounter as Matt Hunt (1-0-0) goes to battle with Kevin Aguilar (0-0-0). Matt Hunt made his professional MMA debut a little over a month ago, defeating Andre Quintanavia. Kevin Aguilar will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but has competed in nearly twenty amateur MMA fights. This fight is really a coin toss type of deal, but Matt Hunt does have a pro experience edge and I’ll go with him.

Headlining the preliminary card will be a middleweight fight as Kelly Leo (3-1-0) will face off with Chad “The Boss” Leonhardt (7-2-0). Kelly Leo hasn’t competed in well over a year, but has competed in the lone Fight Force International pay-per-view. Chad Leonhardt is currently undefeated in BFC competition, defeating Dan Keenan by knockout at BFC 9 in May 2009. This fight should prove to be a good slugfest and it is going to be a slugfest that will be won by Chad Leonhardt.
