BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 37 TELEVISED CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/18/2011 3:11 PM
Bellator Fighting Championships will kick off their featherweight tournament on Saturday Night with four quarterfinal encounters. This tournament features some top fighters like a former Elite XC Featherweight Champion, Shine Fights veteran and one of the “Pitbull” brothers. Please be advised that this event will begin at 7pm EST. on MTV2 due to the UFC event on the same evening.

The evening is headline by a BFC Featherweight Tournament Quarterfinal encounter as Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (14-2-1) faces Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (14-1-0). Georgi Karakhanyan was a semi-finalist in the BFC Featherweight Tournament last year before suffering a loss to Joe Warren. Patricio Freire also lost in the same tournament last year, this time in the finals to the aforementioned Joe Warren. This fight is going to be a close battle, but I’m going with Patricio Freire to pull off the victory like his brother did the week before.

In the co-headliner, Wilson Reis (11-2-0) takes on Zac George (20-3-0) in another BFC Featherweight Title Quarterfinal bout. Wilson Reis has won four of six fights in Bellator Fighting Championships, including a win over WEC veteran Deividas Taurosevicius. Zac George will be entering the fight riding a six fight winning streak, but hasn’t competed in well over a year. While Zac George is a talented fighter, Wilson Reis is a far superior wrestler and that will guide him to victory.

Up next is a BFC Featherweight Tournament Quarterfinal encounter as Kenny “The Tooth Fairy” Foster (8-2-0) takes on Eric Larkin (3-0-0). Kenny Foster has won his lone BFC appearance thus far when he defeated Lester Caslow at BFC 33 by unanimous decision. Eric Larkin made his professional MMA debut less than a year ago, but has finished all three of his fights in the first round. While Eric Larkin is an impressive fighter, he doesn’t have enough experience yet to handle the skills of Kenny Foster.

Kicking off the event will be a BFC Featherweight Tournament Quarterfinal attraction as Daniel Straus (14-3-0) takes on Nazareno “Naza” Malegarie (19-0-0). Daniel Straus enters the fight riding a ten fight winning streak that includes victories over Gideon Ray and Karen Darabedyan. Nazareno Malegarie is a well decorated fighter who has only had two of his nineteen fights go the distance. This fight is a great way to kick off the televised card and Nazareno Malegarie will get his streak to twenty straight.
