BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 38 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/22/2011 9:36 PM
The Bellator Fighting Championship returns this Saturday Night to kick off a tournament to crown the first ever BFC Light Heavyweight Champion. However, the preliminary card must take place first and this particular card features a fighter who holds a non-MMA victory over Fedor Emelianenko. Due to the UFC presenting UFC Ultimate Fight Night on the same night, Bellator Fighting Championships 38 kicks off at 7pm EST. on MTV2.

Kicking off the evening is a middleweight encounter as Amaechi Oselukwue (0-1-0) will take on Abe Wilson (2-1-0). Amaechi Oselukwue made his professional MMA debut a little over two months ago, losing to Daniel O’Brien at Sportfight X. Abe Wilson has fought twice in the Cage Assault promotion, but recently achieved a victory over Dustin Rhodes by knockout. This match is essentially a battle of two MMA novices, but it will be Abe Wilson getting the duke here.

Up next is a BFC Light Heavyweight Division fight as Brian Albin (7-4-0) goes to battle with Cody Donovan (5-1-0). Brian Albin has fought six times in the Psychout MMA promotion, winning all six fights in a two plus year period. Cody Donovan enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with the last one coming over Xavier Saccomanno. This fight is pitting two well-rounded fighters against each other, but Cody Donovan is walking away the winner with his better striking skills.

The featherweight division is being highlighted next as Tim Galluzzi (4-0-0) takes on the debuting Jake Underwood (0-0-0). Tim Galluzzi is a rising featherweight contender, winning all four of his MMA fights by way of submission. While Jake Underwood is making his professional MMA debut, he has competed a few times as an amateur MMA fighter. Jake Underwood is making his professional debut against the wrong fighter, as Tim Galluzzi will be tapping him out.

The next fight is in the lightweight division as Austin Lyons (5-1-0) will go to war with Jimmy Van Horn (2-0-0). Austin Lyons will be entering the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with his last victory coming a little over a month ago. Jimmy Van Horn has won both of his professional MMA fights and he has won both of the fights by submission. This is going to be a battle of two good submission fighters and the battle is going to be won by Austin Lyons.

Headlining the preliminary card is a heavyweight battle pitting John “Doo Doo” Brown (8-4-0) against Blagoi Ivanov (3-0-0). Despite the awful nickname, John Brown has fought two of the best MMA heavyweights in Jeff Monson and Ricco Rodriquez. While new to MMA, Blagoi Ivanov is best known for defeating Fedor Emelianenko is a sambo competition. While John Brown boasts an impressive roster of foes, Blagoi Ivanov is far too skilled to drop this fight on Saturday Night.
