STRIKEFORCE CHALLENGERS 15 TELEVISED CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/30/2011 9:31 PM
The fifteenth edition of the Strikeforce Challengers Series is set for Friday Night and it will feature a plethora of top prospects. The card is headlined by an intriguing battle between Rodrigo Damm and Justin Wilcox, plus a few other greats as well. Fighters like James Terry, David Douglas, Caros Fodor, Scott Lighty and others will get an opportunity to shine.

Headlining this fight card is a lightweight encounter as Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox (10-3-0) takes on Rodrigo Damm (9-4-0). Justin Wilcox has won four of five in Strikeforce, including a notable victory over Vitor Ribeiro at Strikeforce Challengers 12. Rodrigo Damm has fought once in Strikeforce, losing to Gilbert Melendez at Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz. This fight is going to be an exciting ground battle, which is a battle that Justin Wilcox is going to be winning.

A pair of light heavyweights are in the co-headliner as Lorenz Larkin (8-0-0) does battle with Scott Lighty (6-1-0). Lorenz Larkin is an undefeated fighter who is a late replacement for Satoshi Ishii, who pulled out of the fight after having visa issues. Scott Lighty has split both of his fights in Strikeforce, notably suffering a defeat to Antwain Britt at Strikeforce: Evolution. The lack of proper preparation time is going to hurt Lorenz Larkin as Scott Lighty hands him his first career defeat.

A lightweight encounter will take place next as David “Tarzan” Douglas (8-2-0) takers on Caros “The Future” Fodor (7-2-0). David Douglas has won two of three in Strikeforce, including a victory over Nick Gonzales at Strikeforce Challengers 14. Caros Fodor is entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with a recent victory over Ousmane Thomas Diagne. This is going to be a striker versus grappler encounter, which the grappler in Caros Fodor is going to be winning.

Welterweights will be stepping into the cage next as James Terry (9-2-0) goes to war with Josh Thornburg (6-2-0). James Terry has won four of five fights in Strikeforce, including an exciting two fight series with Zak Bucia. Josh Thornburg is a late replacement for Conor Heun, who was forced to pull out of the fight after suffering a training camp injury. Despite having a little bit of Strikeforce experience, Josh Thornburg is going to be suffering a defeat to James Terry.

Kicking off the card is a welterweight encounter as Damian Douglas (3-1-0) will battle with Wayne Phillips (5-3-0). Damian Douglas has not fought in well over two years, with his last victory coming over Joe Schilling at an Elite XC event. Wayne Phillips is undefeated in Strikeforce competition, having defeated Eric Lawson and Fernando Battega. Cage rust is going to be a huge factor for Damian Douglas, as Wayne Phillips defeats him to remain undefeated in Strikeforce.
