BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 39 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/31/2011 1:04 PM
The first title fight of season four takes place on Saturday Night as Eddie Alvarez defends the BFC Lightweight Title against Pat Curran. Also, the semi-finals of the BFC Lightweight Tournament takes place and a UFC veteran enters the BFC cage for the first time. Before all of that action takes place though, there is a five fight preliminary card that has another UFC veteran in action.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight fight as John “The Convict” McLaughlin (3-0-0) takes on Blair Tugman (5-3-0). John McLaughlin is an undefeated who has fought all three of his professional fights in the Reality Fighting promotion. Blair Tugman has not had an MMA fight yet in 2011, last defeating Todd Sweeney at a CES MMA event in October 2010. This is a battle of two decent grapplers, but John McLaughlin is better at finishing fights on the ground and that will get him the win.

Up next is a pair of lightweights as Dave “The Fugitive” Jansen (14-2-0) is going to war with Scott McAfee (10-2-0). Dave Jansen won one of three in the WEC promotion, with that lone victory coming over MMA veteran Richard Crunkilton. Scott McAfee is entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with both of those victories coming in the Artic Combat promotion. While Dave Jansen didn’t show much promise in the WEC, he will live up to that promise by beating Scott McAfee on Saturday Night.

Welterweights will be stepping into the cage next as Mike Winters (4-0-0) will be taking on Ryan Quinn (4-2-0). Mike Winters has spent a little time in the M-1 Challenge promotion, defeating Jose Rodriquez by unanimous decision. Ryan Quinn is currently undefeated in Bellator Fighting Championships competition, defeating Matt Lee at BFC 15. Mike Winters will be keeping his undefeated streak alive on Saturday Night, while Ryan Quinn will be handed his first Bellator defeat.

The next fight will be featuring middleweights as Greg Rebello (12-2-0) will be facing off with Dan Cramer (5-2-0). Greg Rebello will be entering the fight riding an eleven fight winning streak, with one of those victories coming in the Bellator Fighting Championships. Despite only competing in seven MMA fights, Dan Cramer has already fought three UFC veterans on Dante Rivera, Matt Arroyo and Matthew Riddle. Greg Rebello will be keeping his incredible winning streak alive on Saturday Night as he handily defeats Dan Cramer.

Headlining the preliminary card is a lightweight fight as UFC veteran Matt Veach (15-3-0) takes on Rene Nazare (6-0-0). Matt Veach fought three times in the UFC, with his lone victory coming over Matt Grice at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 17. Rene Nazare is an undefeated fighter who has seen three of his six victories in the Reality Fighting promotion. Rene Nazare will be seeing his undefeated streak come to an end on Saturday Night as Matt Veach notches another victory.
