Round One: The Best Four Minutes Of The Year
Everybody who analyzed this fight before the bell rung said Nick Diaz is a smart fighter who is going to neutralize Paul Daley’s stand up by putting the fight on the ground. Nick Diaz did exactly the opposite and decided to spend the entire fight slugging it out with the more skilled striker. To his credit, Paul Daley did drop Nick Diaz twice, but was unable to finish the fight when it all counted. Nick Diaz used his seemingly never ending strikes to put Paul Daley away with a few seconds on the clock to keep the title.
Next Round For Nick Diaz: Tyron Woodley
Next Round For Paul Daley: Walking Away From Strikeforce
Round Two: That Rematch Was A Lot Shorter
Nearly five years ago at a PRIDE event In Japan, Gilbert Melendez edged out a decision victory over the top ranked Tatsuya Kawajiri. Their rematch this Saturday Night was action packed and it ended a lot quicker than their first fight all those years ago. Gilbert Melendez dominated from bell to bell to TKO Tatsuya Kawajiri in less than five total minutes in the second encounter. It may have been an even more prominent victory after the bell because Gilbert Melendez was the first Strikeforce champion to challenge a UFC champion.
Next Round For Gilbert Melendez: Jorge Masvidal or KJ Noons
Next Round For Tatsuya Kawajiri: Returning To The Fledgling Japanese MMA Scene
Round Three: Not Bad For Nine Days’ Notice
Originally, Gegard Mousasi was originally set to face Mike Kyle this past Saturday Night, but he got UFC veteran Keith Jardine instead. On just nine days’ notice, Keith Jardine took on what a lot of people consider one of the top light heavyweight fighters in MMA, Gegard Mousasi. The fight didn’t necessarily end in spectacular fashion, because it ended in a majority draw due to a point deduction in round one. The real victim of all this could become Mike Kyle, who now has to wait through a potential rematch before facing his original opponent.
Next Round For Gegard Mousasi: A rematch with Keith Jardine

Round Four: An Awesome Second Impression
When Shinya Aoki made his Strikeforce debut around a year ago, he was handily defeated by current Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez. The second time around was much better for Shinya Aoki as he easily conquered Lyle Beerbohm in under two minutes. Shinya Aoki now finds himself in title contention in a very shallow Strikeforce Lightweight Division that is championed by Gilbert Melendez. Lyle Beerbohm will not be ousted from Strikeforce after the loss, but he will most likely be demoted to the smaller shows.
Next Round For Shinya Aoki: Josh Thomson or Justin Wilcox
Next Round For Lyle Beerbohm: Strikeforce Challengers Series
Round Five: That Did Not Take Very Long
It only took about an hour and a half into the broadcast for it to actually happen, but Strikeforce champions have already issued challenges to UFC champions. While many folks assumed it would eventually happen, most thought it would take some time before it actually did. The real interesting response will be from UFC President Dana White, who was initially hesitant to agree to such fights. If it did come true with all the current champions, here is how things would work out…
