BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 42 TELEVISED CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/22/2011 10:04 AM
The fans will be one step closer to seeing the first ever Bellator Fighting Championships Light Heavyweight Champion crowned on Saturday Night. That is due to the fact that all four semi-finalist of the BFC Light Heavyweight Tournament will be taking place. Also, Ronnie Mann gets to be a late addition to the card after the original fight between Cole Konrad and Paul Buentello was called off.

Headlining this card is a BFC Light Heavyweight Tournament Semi-Final fight as DJ “Da Protégé” Linderman (9-1-0) takes on Richard “Rare Breed” Hale (16-3-1). DJ Linderman earned his way to the tournament semi-finals by defeating Raphael Davis at BFC 38 by TKO. Richard Hale wound up defeating Nik Fekete by submission at BFC 38 to find himself in the semi-finals of the tournament. This is a battle of two well-rounded fighters, but it will be Richard Hale who will be walking away with a victory.

The co-main event is another BFC Light Heavyweight Tournament Semi-Final fight as Christian “Tonton” M’Pumbu (16-3-1) takes on Tim Carpenter (7-0-0). Christian M’Pumbu punched his ticket into the tournament semi-finals when he defeated Chris Davis by TKO at BFC 38. Tim Carpenter pulled off the upset of the tournament thus far when he defeated Daniel Gracie by split decision at BFC 38. While he pulled the shocker in his first tournament appearance, Tim Carpenter will not be doing it again against Christian M’Pumbu.

A pair of featherweights are going to battle next as Josh Arocho (6-9-0) will go to war with Ronnie Mann (18-2-1). Despite entering the fight with a less than stellar record, Josh Arocho has stepped into the cage with UFC veteran Alvin Robinson. Ronnie Mann is the current Shark Fights Featherweight Champion as he defeated UFC veteran Doug Evans at Shark Fights 13 to win the title. This fight was set up to be a Ronnie Mann highlight reel and that is exactly what this fight is going to become.

Kicking off the evening is a bantamweight encounter as Jerod Spoon (5-1-1) will be battling Luiz Alberto “Betao” Nogueira (10-1-0). Jerod Spoon enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with three of those wins coming in the Bricktown Brawl promotion. Luiz Alberto Nogueira will be making his North American MMA debut in this fight, with most of his fights occurring in Shooto Brazil. While Jerod Spoon is a top prospect, there is no way he is going to be able to stop the striking game of Luiz Alberto Nogueira.
