UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTER 13 FINALE PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/2/2011 8:50 AM
Some people find the number thirteen to be unlucky, but one fighter on Saturday Night will hope that thirteen is his lucky number. However, before a new UFC Ultimate Fighter champion can be crowned, six preliminary card fights will take place. These preliminary card fights will be featuring a top lightweight fighter, a former WEC Bantamweight Title top contender and a very important featherweight division fight.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division encounter as Shamar Bailey (11-3-0) takes on Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray (11-4-1). Shamar Bailey enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with a notable defeat to Justin Wilcox at Strikeforce Challengers 7. Ryan McGillivray enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, but hasn’t competed in a professional MMA fight in nearly a year. This is a battle of two TUF veterans, but it will be Ryan McGillivray picking up the victory in this particular battle.

Another battle of welterweights will be happening next as Justin Edwards (6-0-0) goes to battle with Clay Harvison (6-1-0). Justin Edwards started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, defeating UFC veteran Josh Rafferty at an Extreme Challenge event. Clay Harvison has fought in seven professional MMA fights and none of those seven fights went past the opening round. This is a battle of two exciting finishers, but it will be the undefeated Justin Edwards keeping his streak alive.

A pair of bantamweights will be going to battle next as Scott “Young Guns” Jorgensen (11-4-0) faces Ken Stone (9-2-0). Scott Jorgensen once challenged for the WEC Bantamweight Title, losing to Dominick Cruz by unanimous decision at WEC 53. Ken Stone competed at the last ever WEC event, WEC 53, losing to Eddie Wineland by knockout in the first round. This fight is really Scott Jorgensen’s to lose, but he will not be doing so as he wrestles his way to another victory.

Up next is a bantamweight division affair as Reuben Duran (7-3-1) faces off with Francisco “Cisco” Rivera (5-1-0). Reuben Duran suffered a defeat in his UFC debut by a close split decision to Takeya Mizugaki at UFC On Versus III. Francisco Rivera last competed at WEC 53 as a late replacement for Josh Grispi, but lost to Erik Koch by submission. This will be an interesting battle between too good strikers, but the more well-rounded Reuben Duran will get the victory.

The next fight is an important featherweight division fight as Josh “The Fluke” Grispi (14-2-0) squares off with George Roop (11-7-1). Josh Grispi won four straight fights in the WEC, but then dropped a unanimous decision loss to Dustin Porier at UFC 125. George Roop could be fighting for his job against Josh Grispi, as he has only won one of four in the promotion. George Roop will most likely be getting his pink slip as Josh Grispi plows his way through the taller fighter.

Headlining the preliminary card is a lightweight fight as Daniel “Danny Boy” Downes (8-1-0) takes on Jeremy “Lil Heathen” Stephens (19-6-0). Daniel Downes has won two straight entering this fight, including a victory over Tiequan Zhang at WEC 53. Jeremy Stephens has won three of his last four in the UFC, including wins over Sam Stout and Marcus Davis. This fight is going to be a heck of a slugfest, but it will be Jeremy Stephens picking up the hard fought victory.
