Kicking off the evening is a lightweight title eliminator as Jorge “Gamebred†Masvidal (21-6-0) squares off against KJ “King†Noons (10-3-0). Jorge Masvidal is currently undefeated in Strikeforce competition, most recently defeating Billy Evangelista. KJ Noons is coming off of a loss in his Strikeforce Welterweight Title fight against Nick Diaz, who recently relinquished the title. This fight should be nothing short of a slugger’s paradise, but the added wrestling skills of Jorge Masvidal will get him the win.
Up next is a heavyweight division affair as Chad “Grave Digger†Griggs (10-1-0) goes to battle against Valentijn “The Python†Overeem (29-25-0). Chad Griggs is currently undefeated in Strikeforce competition, with his biggest victory coming over former WWE wrestler Bobby Lashley. Valentijn Overeem is also undefeated in Strikeforce competition, having defeated Ray Sefo at Strikeforce: Emelianenko vs. Silva. Despite the huge experience edge for Valentijn Overeem, Chad Griggs brawling skills will earn him the big victory.
Another set of heavyweights are set to clash next as Daniel Cormier (7-0-0) takes on Jeff “The Snowman†Monson (42-11-0). Daniel Cormier has had an incredible run thus far in his MMA career, even capturing the King Of The Cage Heavyweight Title. Jeff Monson is a well-traveled MMA veteran who has even challenged then champion Tim Sylvia for the UFC Heavyweight Title. This fight is going to be between two excellent grapplers, but it will be Daniel Cormier keeping his undefeated streak alive.
The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarterfinals start next as Josh “The Babyfaced Assassin†Barnett (29-5-0) faces off with Brett “The Grim†Rogers (11-2-0). Josh Barnett is coming off a suspension from the NSAC and hasn’t had an MMA fight in almost a full year. Brett Rogers recently ended a two fight losing streak, defeating Ruben Villareal at a W-1 MMA event. This is a classic striker versus grappler encounter, but it will be the grappler in Josh Barnett earning the victory.
Headlining this card is a Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarterfinal fight as current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair “Demolition Man†Overeem (34-11-0) does war with Fabricio “Vai Calvao†Werdum (14-4-1). Alistair Overeem returns to Strikeforce after a year’s absence, but he defeated UFC veteran Todd Duffee in that time. Fabricio Werdum is coming off the biggest victory of his career as he tapped out Fedor Emelianenko last Summer. This is a rematch of a fight that occurred in PRIDE many years back, but it will be Alistair Overeem earning the victory this time.
