CHECK OUT…LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

By David Tees on 8/1/2011 3:44 PM
A new feature I will be bringing to PWInsiderXtra.com is called “Check Out…”, which will feature a look at other MMA promotions not called the Ultimate Fighting Championships, Strikeforce or Bellator Fighting Championships. There are plenty of folks who are MMA fans, old and new, that only know of the major promotions and these columns will hopefully change that.

Promotion: Legacy Fighting Championships

Home Base: Texas

Broadcast Partner: HDNet

Official Website: LegacyFights.tv

First Event: November 7th, 2009

Next Event: Legacy Fighting Championships 8 on September 16th, 2011 (HDNet)

Notable Fighters: Pete Spratt, Carlo Prater, Cameron Dollar, Jonathan Mackles, Isaac Villaneuva, Chad Robichaux, Artenas Young

Based out of Texas, the Legacy Fighting Championships has come a long way for a promotion that has not even been around for two years. They started off mainly promoting events with local Texas based talents, but the last few events have seen former UFC and WEC talent brought in, amongst others. Even with the big name talent coming in, Legacy still keeps giving local up and comers an opportunity to shine on a larger scale.

Despite cards that feature professional MMA fights, Legacy also promotes the Legacy Amateur Series events, in which there has been three thus far. Much like what some other promotions do, Legacy has given amateur competitors a chance to gain experience before turning pro.

Legacy Fighting Championships 7 was easily the biggest date the promotion has had so far because it was their national TV debut on HDNet. The event featured many well-known fighters like Pete Spratt, Carlo Prater, Cameron Dollar and Chad Robichaux. The highlights of that event saw Pete Spratt earn a quick KO victory over Antonio Flores and Carlo Prater submitting Cameron Dollar.

Funny enough, Legacy Fighting Championships was not the promotions name, instead in was simply called Legacy Promotions. It was not until the fifth event, Legacy Fighting Championship 5, that the promotions name was changed permanently into Legacy Fighting Championships. No matter the name, Legacy has been provided an excellent series of MMA events and they will continue to do so with Legacy Fighting Championships 8 in September.
