BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 48 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/18/2011 12:30 PM
The conclusion of the very entertaining Bellator “Summer Series” comes to an end this Saturday Night with a very loaded card. Competing on this card will be BFC Heavyweight Champion Cole Konrad, UFC veteran Paul Buentello and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriquez. The preliminary card is also pretty stacked with fighters from both Bellator and the Ultimate Fighting Championships.

Kicking off the card is a featherweight division encounter as Saul “The Spider” Almeida (9-1-0) goes into battle against Tateki Matsuda (6-2-0). Saul Almeida enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with both of those victories coming in the Classic Sports & Entertainment promotion. Tateki Matsuda will also be entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak and has fought UFC veteran Anthony Leone in the past. This fight is going to be a classic striker versus grappler encounter, but it will be the grappler in Saul Almeida getting the duke.

The next battle will take place in the light heavyweight division as Nik “The Machete” Fekete (4-1-0) will be across the cage from Mark Griffin (3-2-1). Nik Fekete is currently winless in Bellator competition, losing to Richard Hale by submission at Bellator 38. Mark Griffin enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with both of the victories coming in the Cage Fighting Xtreme promotion. This battle should mostly be contested on the feet with Nik Fekete picking up his first Bellator victory.

We move into the welterweight division for our next fight as Brett Oteri (8-1-0) will face off with Ryan Quinn (5-2-1). Brett Orteri enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, but he is coming off of a six month layoff. Ryan Quinn is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having achieved victories over both Matt Lee and Mike Winters. The winner of this fight could replace the injured Rick Hawn in the upcoming welterweight tournament and that will by Ryan Quinn.

The lightweight division will be highlighted next as Andrew Calandrelli (4-3-1) will go into war with Matt Nice (2-1-0). Andrew Calandrelli will be returning to MMA competition after a near four year layoff as his last fight was in 2007. Matt Nice will be competing outside of the Locked In The Cage promotion for the first time, where he achieved two victories. The very long layoff is going to hurt Andrew Calandrelli in this fight as the less experienced Matt Nice earns the win.

Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division fight as John “Red Carpet” Clarke (8-2-0) takes on Dan Cramer (7-2-0). John Clarke will be competing for the first time in over two years, but does so riding a two fight winning streak. Dan Cramer is a veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championships and he has won four straight fights in Bellator. This fight seems like it is just a set up for Dan Cramer to pick up victory number five, which is exactly what will happen.
