UFC ON FX I FUEL TV PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/16/2012 10:28 PM
History will be made on Friday Night when the UFC airs for the first time on Fuel TV and its first official event on FX. There will be six total fights airing on Fuel TV, with the broadcast lasting a total of three hours in length. This preliminary card will feature key fights in both the welterweight division and middleweight division.

Kicking off the card is a bantamweight division battle as Nick “The Ninja Of Love” Denis (10-2-0) squares off with Joseph Sandoval (6-1-0). Nick Denis will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he has competed overseas in the Sengoku promotion. Joseph Sandoval is currently winless in UFC competition, losing to Walel Watson at UFC On Versus VI by TKO. Nick Denis is a very underrated striker who will be successful in his UFC debut after dropping Joseph Sandoval with strikes.

We change divisions to the featherweight division as Daniel “The Pit” Pineda (15-7-0) battles Pat “Thrilling” Schilling (5-0-0). Daniel Pineda enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with all the wins coming in the Legacy Fighting Championships. Pat Schilling is an undefeated fighter who has achieved all of his victories in the fights opening round. The overall experience advantage for Daniel Pineda will be enough for him to defeat Pat Schilling on Friday Night.

Lightweights are going to be highlighted next as Fabricio “Morango” Camoes (13-6-1) stands across the octagon from Tom Hayden (8-0-0). Fabricio Camoes is returning to the UFC after a two year absence, but he has defeated UFC veteran Efrain Escudero between appearances. Tom Hayden is a late replacement fighter in this battle, but he enters the fight with an undefeated record. Being a late replacement is going to hurt Tom Hayden in this fight as Fabricio Camoes earns the victory.

Up next is a welterweight division clash as Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman (14-3-0) does battle with Daniel “Ninja” Roberts (12-3-0). Charlie Brenneman has won three of five in the UFC, with his biggest victory coming over Rick Story at UFC on Versus IV. Daniel Roberts has lost two straight in UFC competition, last defeating Greg Soto at UFC 125 by submission. This should be a highly contested ground battle, but it will be Charlie Brenneman picking up the win.

We move to the lightweight division for the next encounter as Habib Nurmagomedov (16-0-0) faces Kamal “Prince Of Persia” Shalorus (7-1-2). Habib Nurmagomedov will be making his UFC debut in this fight after spending his entire career competing outside of North America. Kamal Shalorus is currently winless in UFC competition, losing to Jim Miller by TKO at UFC 128 this past March. This fight will be the breakout fight for Habib Nurmagomedov in North America as he defeats Kamal Shalorus on Friday Night.

Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division affair as Jorge “El Conquistador” Rivera (19-9-0) takes on Eric “Red” Schafer (12-6-2). Jorge Rivera enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with his last victory coming over Nate Quarry at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 21. Eric Schafer has lost three straight fights in the UFC and could be fighting to avoid the dreaded pink slip. This fight is key to see who can remain relevant in the division and that fighter will be the veteran Jorge Rivera.
