UFC ON FOX II FUEL TV CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/26/2012 1:27 PM

For the second straight week in a row, UFC action returns to Fuel TV with another top notch preliminary card. This card will feature several key fights that will be taking place in both the UFC Lightweight and UFC Heavyweight Divisions. Also, this preliminary card will mark the UFC debut of Lavar Johnson, as he is the first Strikeforce heavyweight fighter to move to the UFC after the two divisions merged.

Kicking off the action is a heavyweight division contest as Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran (13-6-0) dukes it out with Lavar “Big” Johnson (15-5-0). Joey Beltran has split his six fights in the UFC, most notably defeating Rolles Gracie in his UFC debut at UFC 109. Lavar Johnson will be making his UFC debut after coming over from Strikeforce, but he does so riding a two fight losing streak. This fight should be nothing short of a striking festival, but it will be a fight that Lavar Johnson is victorious in.

We move to the lightweight division for the next contest as Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira (14-2-0) squares off with Eric “Little Lee” Wisely (19-6-0). Charles Oliveira is coming off of a terrible run in his last three UFC fights, with two losses and a lone no contest. Eric Wisely will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he does so with recent victories over UFC veterans Matt Veach and Hermes Franca. This fight is going to be a real test for a slacking Charles Oliveira, but he will be passing the test in the end.

Featherweight fighters will be featured next as George Roop (12-8-1) will square off against Cub Swanson (15-5-0). George Roop has achieved victory in only one of his three UFC fights, with his last fight against Hatsu Hioki ending in a controversial decision. Cub Swanson is the lone fighter on the card to compete on the first UFC On Fox event, losing to Ricardo Lamas. This battle is easily a competition to avoid the evil pink slip and it will be the fighter known as George Roop doing so.

We return to the heavyweight division for the next fight as John Olav “The Viking” Einemo (6-2-0) will battle with Mike Russow (14-1-0). John Olav Einemo is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to Dave Herman at UFC 131. Mike Russow is currently undefeated in UFC competition, earning victories over Justin McCully, Todd Duffee and Jon Madsen. This fight is going to be a classic striker versus grappler encounter and it is going to be the grappler in Mike Russow pulling out the victory.

Up next is a lightweight division affair as Michael “The Menace” Johnson (9-6-0) takes on Shane Roller (10-5-0). Michael Johnson has only won one of three in UFC competition, with that lone victory coming over Edward Faaloloto at UFC On Versus IV. Shane Roller is currently winless in UFC competition, suffering defeats to both Melvin Guillard and TJ Grant. This fight is a battle to see who has a shot of remaining relevant in the division and that fighter will be Shane Roller.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as Evan Dunham (12-2-0) faces Nik “The Carny” Lentz (12-4-2). Evan Dunham snapped a recent two fight losing streak at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 25 when he defeated Shamar Bailey by unanimous decision. Nik Lentz is coming off of the first loss in his UFC tenure, which was to Mark Bocek by unanimous decision at UFC 140. This fight could easily be the show stealer of the entire event, but it will be Evan Dunham picking up the important win.
