We are getting closer and closer to crowning a UFC Interim Welterweight Champion as Nick Diaz battles Carlos Condit on Saturday Night. However, there will be a four fight preliminary card that will be airing on FX before the pay-per-view broadcast. The card will feature several UFC Ultimate Fighter alumni and a top ranked contender in the featherweight division.
Kicking off the card is a welterweight division clash as Matt “The Immortal†Brown (12-11-0) battles Chris “C-Murder†Cope (5-2-0). Matt Brown has only won one of his last four in UFC competition, last defeating John Howard at UFC On Versus IV. Chris Cope has split both of his fights in the UFC, defeating Chuck O’Neal and suffering a defeat to Che Mills. This battle is essentially a fight to avoid the pink slip, but in the end it will be Matt Brown pulling out the victory.
We move to the bantamweight division for the next fight as Alex “Bruce Leroy†Caceres (6-4-0) duels Edwin “El Feroz†Figueroa (8-1-0). Alex Caceres won his first UFC fight at UFC On Fox I, when he defeated veteran Cole Escovedo by unanimous decision. Edwin Figueroa has split both of his UFC fights, defeating Jason Reinhardt and suffering a defeat to Michael McDonald. This fight is a true clash between two great up and comers, but it will be Edwin Figueroa earning the victory.
Up next is a welterweight division contest as Jorge “Lil’ Monster†Lopez (11-2-0) faces Matthew Riddle (5-3-0). Jorge Lopez is currently winless in UFC competition, having lost to Justin Edwards by unanimous decision at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 25. Matthew Riddle enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak and is one of a small list of fighters to compete in the UFC for his entire career. This fight is going to be a classic striker versus grappler contest, but it will be the striker in Jorge Lopez getting the win.
Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division fight as Max “Lil’ Evil†Holloway (4-0-0) takes on Dustin “The Diamond†Poirier (11-1-0). Max Holloway will be making his UFC debut in this fight, with prior experience competing in the X-1 MMA promotion. Dustin Poirier is currently undefeated in UFC competition, earning victories over Josh Grispi, Jason Young and Pablo Garza. Being a late replacement is going to hurt Max Holloway in this one as Dustin Poirier pulls out the victory.
