There will finally be an interim champion in the welterweight division this Saturday Night when Carlos Condit battles Nick Diaz. Also, contenders will clash in the heavyweight division as Fabricio Werdum makes his return to the UFC. Plus, there are key fights in the welterweight division, middleweight division and bantamweight division.
Kicking off the action is a middleweight division fight as Ed “Short Fuse†Herman (19-8-0) will clash with Clifford Starks (8-0-0). Ed Herman has been undefeated since returning from a knee injury, defeating both Tim Creduer and Kyle Noke. Clifford Starks is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Dustin Jacoby by unanimous decision at UFC 137. This fight is going to be a hard test for Clifford Starks, but he will be failing as Ed Herman gets the victory.
We move to the bantamweight division for the next fight as Renan Barao (27-1-0) dukes it out with Scott “Young Guns†Jorgensen (13-4-0). Renan Barao enters this fight riding a twenty seven fight winning streak, with his last loss coming in April 2005. Scott Jorgensen has been undefeated in the UFC after coming over from the WEC, defeating Ken Stone and Jeff Curran. This fight could determine the next contender in the bantamweight division, but it will be Renan Barao getting the victory.
Up next is a welterweight division clash as Josh “Kos†Koscheck (16-5-0) will do battle with Mike Pierce (13-4-0). Josh Koscheck has won his lone fight since losing his UFC Welterweight Title opportunity, defeating Matt Hughes at UFC 135. Mike Pierce has won five of seven in the UFC, with a notable victory over Brock Larson at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 19. This fight is easily the biggest opportunity of Mike Pierce’s career and he will take advantage of that to pull the upset.
The co-main event is a heavyweight division contest as Roy “Big Country†Nelson (16-6-0) faces Fabricio “Vai Cavalo†Werdum (14-5-1). Roy Nelson has only won one of his last three in the UFC, last defeating Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 137 by TKO. Fabricio Werdum returns to the UFC after a three years absence, where he competed in Strikeforce, competing in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. This fight will determine who moves into the division’s top five and that fighter is going to be Fabricio Werdum.
Headlining this card is a UFC Interim Welterweight Title decision fight as Nick Diaz (26-7-0) takes on “The Natural Born Killer†Carlos Condit (27-5-0). Nick Diaz returns to the UFC after a five year absence at UFC 137, defeating BJ Penn and sending him into retirement. Carlos Condit enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak and he is a former WEC Welterweight Champion. This fight has “fight of the year†written all over it, but it will be Nick Diaz coming out the new interim welterweight champion.
