UFC ON FUEL TV I TELEVISED CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/14/2012 10:31 PM

We are less than a day away from the first official UFC event on Fuel TV and what a great card we will be checking out on Wednesday Night. Headlined by a potential top contenders battle between welterweights Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger. Also, there will be two key fights happening in the heavyweight division and a top ranked middleweight in action.

(Note: After my UFC On Fuel TV I Facebook Card Preview was posted on PWInsiderXtra.com, it was announced by the UFC that the Ivan Menjivar/John Albert preliminary card fight was moved to the main card, this fight was previewed in yesterday’s column and will not be previewed again in this one.)

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as TJ Dillashaw (4-1-0) does battle with Walel “The Gazelle” Watson (9-3-0). TJ Dillashaw made it to the finals of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 14, but was defeated by John Dodson in the finals. Walel Watson has split both of his fights in the UFC, defeating Joseph Sandoval and suffering a defeat to Yves Jabouin. This fight is a potential battle to avoid the evil pink slip and it will be Walel Watson avoiding that pink slip.

We move to the heavyweight division for the next fight as Philip De Fries (8-0-0) dukes it out with Stipe Miocic (7-0-0). Philip De Fries is currently undefeated in UFC competition, defeating Rob Broughton at UFC 138 by unanimous decision. Stipe Miocic made his UFC debut at UFC 136, when he defeated Joey Beltran by unanimous decision after three rounds of action. This is a pivotal battle in the heavyweight division, but it will be Stipe Miocic remaining undefeated in the end.

Up next is a middleweight division contest as Ronny Markes (12-1-0) squares off with Aaron “A-Train” Simpson (11-2-0). Ronny Markes is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Karlos Vemola by unanimous decision at UFC On Versus V. Aaron Simpson enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, most notably defeating Eric Schafer at UFC 136. This fight will be an interesting battle that will most likely be fought on the ground and Aaron Simpson will be the winner.

The co-main event takes place in the heavyweight division as Dave Herman (21-2-0) faces Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve (22-5-0). Dave Herman is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Jon Olav Einemo by TKO at UFC 131. Stefan Struve has won three of his last four in the UFC, most notably defeating Pat Barry at UFC On Versus V. This fight is a big time fight in the heavyweight division and it will be Dave Herman taking that big step forward.

Headlining this card is a welterweight division affair as Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger (26-5-0) takes on Diego “The Dream” Sanchez (23-4-0). Jake Ellenberger enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, last defeating Jake Shields at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 25. Diego Sanchez enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, but he has not competed in nearly a year. This fight could determine the next top contender in the welterweight division and that fighter will be Jake Ellenberger.
