Before the FX network heads to Australia for UFC On FX II, the channel will first make a stop in Japan to air four top notch preliminary fights. Much like the seven fight pay-per-view that follows, most of the fights on the FX card feature top rated Japanese fighters. These four fights also feature a few top rated non-Japanese talents, like the former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as Chris “Kamikaze†Cariaso (12-3-0) does battle with Takeya Mizugaki (15-6-0). Chris Cariaso has won two of three in UFC competition, with a notable victory over Will Campuzano at UFC Fights For The Troops II. Takeya Mizugaki has also won two of three in the UFC and will compete in Japan for the first time in over three years. This fight will be determined by Chris Cariaso’s takedown defense, which isn’t good enough to halt a Takeya Mizugaki victory.
Middleweights will be stepping into the cage next as Steve “Robot†Cantwell (7-5-0) stands across the octagon from Riki Fukuda (17-5-0). Steve Cantwell is the former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion, but has lost four straight in UFC competition. Riki Fukuda is winless in UFC competition, losing a highly controversial decision to Nick Ring at UFC 127. This fight could essentially be a battle to avoid the pink slip and it will be Riki Fukuda avoiding one in the end.
Up next is a bantamweight division affair as Vaughan Lee (11-7-0) faces Norifumi “Kid†Yamamoto (18-5-0). Vaughan Lee is currently winless in UFC competition, having lost a split decision to Chris Cariaso at UFC 138 in November 2011. Norifumi Yamamoto has lost four of five heading into this fight, with that lone victory being over Federico Lopez at DREAM 14. Vaughan Lee has the wrestling ability that is the kryptonite to Norifumi Yamamoto, which is why Vaughan Lee pulls out the victory.
Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division battle as “The Fireball Kid†Takanori Gomi (32-8-0) takes on Eiji Mitsouka (18-7-0). Takanori Gomi has only won one of his four fights in the UFC, with that lone victory being over Tyson Griffin at UFC On Versus II. Eiji Mitsouka will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he has spent most of his time competing in Sengoku. This fight should be an exciting way to cap off the FX card and it will be Takanori Gomi getting the victory in the end.
