TITAN FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 21 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/29/2012 2:37 PM

Just because there are both UFC and Strikeforce events this weekend, it does not mean that there is not room for more MMA action. That bit of extra MMA action comes this Friday Night with Titan Fighting Championships 21, which airs live on HDNet. This is a spectacular card that will feature the Titan debut of UFC veteran Jorge Santiago and a host of other great MMA talent.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division encounter as Mirsad Bektic (1-0-0) competes against Cody Carrillo (3-3-0). Mirsad Bektic made his professional MMA debut late in 2011, defeating Derek Rhoads at Victory fighting Championships 36. Cody Carrillo enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with both victories coming in the C3 Fights promotion. This will easily be the biggest test of Mirsad Bektic’s pro MMA career and it will be a test that the fighter passes.

We move to the bantamweight division for the next fight as Josh Huber (7-2-0) does battle with Fabio Mello (9-6-0). Josh Huber enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak, including a victory over Jason Trevino at Shark Fights 20. Fabio Mello has picked up some big victories in his MMA career, including victories over WEC veteran Anthony Morrison and PRIDE veteran Charles Bennett. This is a big bantamweight fight under the Titan banner, but it will be Fabio Mello picking up the big victory.

The featherweight division returns here as Kevin “The Kremlin” Croom (4-2-0) stands across the cage from Ramiro "Junior" Hernandez (10-4-0). Kevin Croom will be competing for the first time in 2012, but he has competed in the Bellator Fighting championships. Ramiro Hernandez is currently winless in Titan competition, suffering a defeat to Michael Johnson at Titan 15. This will be a good challenge to see if Ramiro Hernandez can get his first Titan victory, which will happen on Friday Night.

Lightweight fighters will be highlighted next as Jesse Zeugin (7-2-0) takes on Joe “Excalibur” Ellenberger (12-1-0). Jesse Zeugin is currently winless in Titan competition, dropping a fight to Joe Wilk at Titan Fighting Championships 18. Joe Ellenberger is the brother of UFC veteran Jake Ellenberger, but he recently suffered the first loss of his career to Justin Salas. Joe Ellenberger has been making waves about coming to the UFC and he will do so after picking up the victory here.

Up next is another featherweight division fight as Andrew Carrillo (5-1-0) battles Joe “The Nose” Wilk (12-7-0). Andrew Carrillo is coming off of the first loss of his MMA career, which was to Josh Tyler at a July 2011 MMA event. Joe Wilk is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated both Jesse Zeugin and Willian De Souza. Joe Wilk may be considered the featherweight king of Titan and his reign will continue this coming Friday Night.

Headlining this card is a middleweight division contest as Leonardo Pechana (14-7-0) faces Jorge Santiago (23-10-0). Leonardo Pechana has won six of his last seven MMA fights, but this fight will mark his first battle of 2012. Jorge Santiago will be competing for the first time since being released from the UFC, following losses to Brian Stann and Damian Maia. This fight will be an interesting one for the UFC veteran, but Jorge Santiago will pull out the victory on his road back to the UFC.
