STRIKEFORCE: TATE VS. ROUSEY PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/1/2012 1:10 PM

After what most people consider a disappoint start to 2012, Strikeforce puts its best foot forward with an amazing card this Saturday Night. The preliminary card does not disappoint as well, with a potential title eliminator in the women’s bantamweight division and two key lightweight fights. Remember, the Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey preliminary card will air on Showtime Extreme prior to the main card airing on Showtime.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division contest as “Relentless” Roger Bowling (10-2-0) competes against Brandon “White Steel” Saling (8-5-0). Roger Bowling has alternated wins and losses while competing in Strikeforce, last defeating Jerron Peoples at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal. Brandon Saling will be making his Strikeforce debut in this fight, but he does so riding a two fight winning streak. This fight is an excellent way to kick off the event, but in the end it will be Roger Bowling pulling out the victory.

Lightweights will be featured next as Ryan Couture (3-1-0) stands across the cage from Conor “Hurricane” Heun (9-4-0). Ryan Couture has spent his entire career competing in Strikeforce, last defeating Maka Watson at Strikeforce Challengers 19. Conor Heun has only won one of three in Strikeforce competition, with those losses coming to Jorge Gurgel and KJ Noons. This fight will be the biggest test of Ryan Couture’s career, but Conor Heun is too experienced to drop this fight to the son of a legend.

Up next is another lightweight division fight as Caros “The Future” Fodor (7-1-0) faces Pat “Bam Bam” Healy (26-16-0). Caros Fodor is currently undefeated in Strikeforce competition, with notable victories over James Terry and Justin Wilcox. Pat Healy has won four of five in Strikeforce competition and he is currently riding a three fight winning streak. This fight could determine who sits behind the KJ Noons/Josh Thomson winner as a lightweight title contender and that fighter will be Caros Fodor.

Headlining this portion of the card is a women’s bantamweight division fight as Alexis Davis (11-4-0) takes on Sarah Kaufman (14-1-0). Alexis Davis is currently undefeated in Strikeforce competition, having defeated both Amanda Nunes and Julie Kedzie. Sarah Kaufman was the first Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion as she defeated Takayo Hashia in February 2010, she lost the title to Marloes Coenen in October of the same year. This fight will determine the next challenger for the title and that challenger is going to be Sarah Kaufman.
