After a brief vacation, Bellator Fighting Championships returns to MTV2 to kick off season six and a new slate of tournaments. Unlike in previous years, this seasons Bellator cards on MTV2 will feature five live fights instead of four fights. This season kicks off with an all featherweight card that features a featherweight title fight and the start of the featherweight tournament.
Kicking off the action is a BFC Featherweight Tournament Opening Round Fight as Jeremy “Spooner†Spoon (12-0-0) collides with Daniel Straus (17-4-0). Jeremy Spoon is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, defeating Jerrod Sanders and Adam Schindler. Daniel Straus made it to the finals of the season four featherweight tournament, losing to Patricio Freire in the finals. This is a fight where tournament experience could be a factor, which is why Daniel Straus will pull out the victory.
We get another BFC Featherweight Tournament Opening Round Fight next as Alexandre “Popo†Bezerra (12-1-0) does battle with Genair “Junior PQD†Da Silva (11-4-0). Alexandre Bezerra has won four straight fights in Bellator, including a victory over UFC veteran Douglas Evans. Genair Da Silva has split both of his fights in Bellator, defeating Bryan Goldsby and suffering a defeat to Marlon Sandro. This fight is a dark horse candidate for fight of the night, but it will be Alexandre Bezerra picking up the victory.
BFC Featherweight Tournament Opening Round action continues next as Mike Corey (11-2-0) battles Ronnie “Iron†Mann (21-4-0). Mike Corey is a late replacement in the tournament, replacing an injured WEC veteran in Waggney Fabiano. Ronnie Mann made it to the semi-finals of the Bellator “Summer Series†featherweight tournament, losing to Pat Curran. Being a late replacement in going to hurt Mike Corey here, as Ronnie Mann advances to the next round of the tournament.
The co-main event is another BFC Featherweight Tournament Opening Round Fight as Marlon Sandro (20-3-0) takes on Roberto “Beto†Vargas (12-1-0). Marlon Sandro made it to the finals of the Bellator “Summer Series†featherweight tournament, losing to Pat Curran. Roberto Vargas returns to Bellator after a two year layoff, when he lost to Wilson Reis at Bellator 10 in June 2009. Marlon Sandro is a Bellator fighter who has been near the top before and his trek begins again as he gets the duke here.
Headlining the card is a BFC Featherweight Title Fight as champion Joe Warren (7-2-0) faces Pat Curran (16-4-0). Joe Warren won the BFC Featherweight Title back at Bellator 27, but he suffered his first Bellator loss at Bellator 51 to Alexis Vila. Pat Curran earned the title shot by winning the Bellator “Summer Series†featherweight tournament by defeating Luis Palomino, Ronnie Mann and Marlon Sandro. This is a battle between two of the best comeback fighters in the promotion, but it will be Joe Warren holding the title in the end.
