With a loaded main card airing on MTV2, Bellator also thought that it was a good idea to make a loaded preliminary card as well. This weekend’s Bellator 62 will feature six fights on the preliminary card, which streams live on both Spike.com and Bellator.com. The card will be featuring such notables as Cosmo Alexander, Douglas Frey, Dave Jansen and a host of others.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division battle between Dave “The Fugitive†Jansen (16-2-0) and Jacob “The Hunter†Kirwan (9-3-0). Dave Jansen has been undefeated in Bellator competition, defeating both Scott McAfee and Ashkan Morvari. Jacob Kirwan is also undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Rene Nazare at Bellator 54 this past October. It is a shock that these two are not competing in the upcoming lightweight tournament, but it will be Dave Jansen picking up the victory.
We move to the bantamweight division for the next contest as Steven “Ocho†Peterson (6-1-0) competes against Chris “Cash†Jones (0-0-0). Steven Peterson returns to Bellator after a two year absence, where he defeated Ernest De La Cruz at Bellator 27. Chris Jones will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight and he has only competed one time as an amateur. Experience will be playing a huge factor in this fight as Steven Peterson picks up the victory in this encounter.
Welterweight fighters will clash in the cage next as Joseph Daily (4-2-0) stands across the cage from Sean Spencer (7-1-0). Joseph Daily has won two of his last four in MMA competition, spending the majority of his career in the South Texas Fighting Championships promotion. Sean Spencer will also be making his Bellator debut in this fight, plus he has competed in the lone MMA Fight Pit pay-per-view. This fight will definitely prove to be an interesting one, but it will be Sean Spencer earning the victory here.
We remain in the welterweight division for the next fight as Cosmo “Good Boy†Alexander (1-1-0) battles Oscar De La Parra (1-2-0). Cosmo Alexander has spent his entire career in Bellator, defeating Avery McPhatter and suffering a defeat to Josh Quayhagen. Oscar De La Parra has a poor MMA record entering this fight, but he was undefeated when competing as an amateur. This will be an entertaining fight between some MMA newcomers, but it will be Cosmo Alexander getting the win.
Up next is a lightweight division affair as Douglas Frey (10-7-0) is prepared to do battle with Rad Martinez (11-2-0). Douglas Frey will be making his Bellator debut in this fight, winning only one of his last four MMA fights. Rad Martinez is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Brian Van Hoven at Bellator 50. This will be a good battle between two experienced competitors, but it will be Rad Martinez being the successful fighter.
Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division contest as Sonny Luque (1-2-0) faces Luis Vega (7-2-0). Sonny Luque is coming off of the first victory of his MMA career, which occurred at a December 2010 event in Texas. Luis Vega enters the fight riding a six fight winning streak, while primarily competing in the South Texas Fight Championships promotion. This fight looks like it was almost set up for a Luis Vega victory, which is exactly what’s going to happen here.
