BELLATOR 65 MTV2 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/11/2012 10:35 PM

Despite losing its heavyweight title fight, Bellator 65 moves forward with a top notch card that includes a bantamweight title fight. There are also three tournament fights taking place in two separate weight divisions, with the featherweight and bantamweight divisions represented. Bellator 65 is part of a major MMA weekend with three different promotions represented both on Friday and Saturday.

Kicking off the action is a Bellator Bantamweight Tournament Opening Round fight as Luis “Betao” Nogueira (12-2-0) battles Alexis “The Exorcist” Vila (11-1-0). Luis Nogueira has won two of three in Bellator competition, most notably defeating Jerod Spoon at Bellator 42. Alexis Vila made it all the way to the finals of the season five bantamweight tournament before losing to Eduardo Dantas. This will be one of the better fights of the evening, but it will be Luis Nogueira moving onto the second round.

Another Bellator Bantamweight Tournament Opening Round battle is next as Marcos “Loro” Galvao (10-5-1) squares off with Ed “Wild” West (17-6-0). Marcos Galvao made it to the semi-finals of the season five bantamweight tournament before losing to Alexis Vila. Ed West has also made it to the semi-finals of the season five bantamweight tournament before losing to Eduardo Dantas. These two fighters were both moments away from making it to the finals last season, but it will be Ed West returning to the semi-finals this season.

Up next is a Bellator Featherweight Tournament Semi-Final Round contest as Mike Corey (12-2-1) faces Daniel Straus (18-4-0). Mike Corey punched his ticket to the semi-finals when he defeated Ronnie Mann by unanimous decision at Bellator 60. Daniel Straus earned his way into the tournament semi-finals with a victory over Jeremy Spoon at Bellator 60. Mike Corey was the upset kid in the opening round, but it will not happen in the semi-finals as Daniel Straus earns the victory.

Headlining the card is a Bellator Bantamweight Title fight as champion Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky (14-2-0) defends against Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas (13-2-0). Zach Makovsky enters the fight riding an eight fight winning streak and he has yet to suffer a defeat in Bellator competition. Eduardo Dantas earned his title shot by winning the season five tournament with victories over Wilson Reis, Ed West and Alexis Vila. This could be the best title fight of season six, but it will be Eduardo Dantas getting the gold at the end of it all.
