While a lot of the focus this weekend will be on UFC 145, Bellator 66 could easily be the biggest fight card in the promotions history. The card is going to be headlined by a long anticipated rematch between former Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez and Japanese legend Shinya Aoki. Also, there will be the semi-final fights in both the Bellator Lightweight Tournament and Bellator Middleweight Tournament.
Kicking off the action is a Bellator Middleweight Tournament Semi-Final fight as Maiquel “Big Rig†Falcao (29-4-0) faces off with Vyacheslav “Slava†Vasilevsky (16-1-0). Maiquel Falcao earned his spot in the tournament semi-finals when he defeated Norman Paraisy at Bellator 61. Vyacheslav Vasilevsky got his spot in the tourney semi-finals when he defeated Victor O’Donnell at Bellator 61. This could easily be the best of the tournament fights on Friday Night, but Maiquel Falcao will advance in the end.
The other Bellator Middleweight Tournament Semi-Finals is next as Brian “The Predator†Rogers (9-3-0) competes against Andreas “Sweet Swede†Spang (7-1-0). Brian Rogers made it to the second round of the tournament with a flying knee knockout of Victor Vianna at Bellator 61. Andreas Spang enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with one victory coming at Strikeforce Challengers 20. Being a late replacement is going to hurt Andreas Spang here as Brian Rogers pulls out the victory here.
Bellator Lightweight Tournament Semi-Finals action is up next as Thiago Michel (10-2-0) battles Brent Weedman (19-7-0). Thiago Michel found himself in the semi-finals of the tournament as he defeated Rene Nazare at Bellator 62. Brent Weedman punched his ticket to the second round of the tournament by defeating Chris Lozano at Bellator 62. This fight is between two of the tournaments best finishers, but it will be Brent Weedman competing in the finals.
Up next is another Bellator Lightweight Tournament Semi-Final fight as Rick Hawn (12-1-0) faces Lloyd “Cupcake†Woodard (12-1-0). Rick Hawn is competing in the tournament semi-finals after he defeated Ricardo Tirloni by TKO at Bellator 62. Lloyd Woodard picked up a tournament semi-final slot by defeating Patricky Freire at Bellator 62. This fight could be the striking battle of the season, but it will be Rick Hawn finding his way to the tournament finals.
Headlining this card is a lightweight division fight as Eddie Alvarez (22-3-0) takes on Shinya “Tobikan Judan†Aoki (30-5-0). Eddie Alvarez will fight for the fight time since losing his Bellator Lightweight Title to Michael Chandler at Bellator 58. Shinya Aoki enters the fight riding a seven fight winning streak, which includes victories over Marcus Aurelio, Lyle Beerbohm, Rich Clementi and Rob McCullough. Eddie Alvarez has improved two fold since losing to Shinya Aoki last time, which is why the series will be evened when it is over.
