As we get closer to the coming UFC Light Heavyweight Title Fight between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans, we have some more preliminary fights to preview. This time the fights will be taking place on FX, instead of streaming on Facebook, like the first two fights on the card. The fights on FX feature a key fight in the heavyweight division and a rare battle between two previous UFC Ultimate Fighter Champions.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Mac Danzig (20-9-1) competes against Efrain Escudero (18-4-0). Mac Danzig is the UFC Ultimate Fighter 6 Champion who has won four of nine fights in UFC competition. Efrain Escudero is the UFC Ultimate Fighter 8 Champion who is currently winless in his second run with the UFC. This could essentially be a battle to avoid the pink slip for both men, but it will be Efrain Escudero doing so in the end.
Another lightweight division fight is up next as John “The Bull†Makdessi (9-1-0) battles Anthony “The Assassin†Njokuani (14-6-0). John Makdessi is coming off of the first loss of his MMA career, which was to Dennis Hallman by submission at UFC 140. Anthony Njokuani has only won one of three in UFC competition, with that lone victory coming over Andre Winner at UFC 132. This should be nothing short of an exciting striking battle, but it will be John Makdessi getting the duke in the end.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Matt “The Immortal†Brown (13-11-0) faces Stephen “Wonderboy†Thompson (6-0-0). Matt Brown has won two of his last three in UFC competition, most notably defeating John Howard at UFC On Versus IV. Stephen Thompson is an undefeated fighter who made his UFC debut at UFC 143, defeating Dan Stittgen by knockout. This fight will be the breakout fight for Stephen Thompson as he remains undefeated when this one is over.
Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight division fight as Travis “Hapa†Browne (12-0-0) takes on Chad “The Grave Digger†Griggs (11-1-0). Travis Browne is currently undefeated in the UFC, with victories over James McSweeney, Stefan Struve and Rob Broughton. Chad Griggs comes over to the UFC after an undefeated run in Strikeforce, which included a victory over former WWE/TNA wrestler Bobby Lashley. The winner of this fight will be moving up to bigger heavyweight fights in the UFC and that fighter is going to be Chad Griggs.
