This coming Saturday Night, one of the biggest rivalries in the modern era of the UFC comes to an end as Jon Jones battles Rashad Evans. There are also former UFC Ultimate Fighter alumni in action as Brendan Schaub competes in a heavyweight action. Plus, there are key fights in the welterweight, bantamweight and heavyweight divisions as six fights make up the main card.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as John “The Natural†Alessio (34-14-0) stands across the octagon from Mark Bocek (10-4-0). John Alessio returns to the UFC after a six year absence, but he defeated UFC veterans Luigi Fioravanti, Chris Clements and War Machine. Mark Bocek has won six of ten in UFC competition, most recently defeating Nik Lentz at UFC 140 by unanimous decision. It is great to see John Alessio get another shot in the UFC, but it will be Mark Bocek pulling out the victory.
We drop to the featherweight division for the next fight as Mark “The Machine†Hominick (20-10-0) competes against Eddie “The Filipino Phenom†Yagin (15-5-0). Mark Hominick enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with his last fight ending in less than twenty seconds. Eddie Yagin is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to Junior Assuncao at UFC 135. This is a do or die fight for both featherweights, but it will be Mark Hominick ending the losing streak in the end.
Bantamweight fighters will be featured next as Michael “Mayday†McDonald (14-1-0) does battle with Miguel Torres (40-4-0). Michael McDonald is currently undefeated in UFC competition, with victories over Edwin Figueroa, Chris Cariaso and Alex Soto. Miguel Torres returns to the UFC after being released following a controversial Twitter rant, marking his first fight of 2012. This fight will be the breakthrough fight for Michael McDonald, as he pulls out the victory on Saturday Night.
Heavyweight fighters are up next as “Big†Ben Rothwell (31-8-0) battles Brendan “The Hybrid†Schaub (8-2-0). Ben Rothwell has won one of three in UFC competition, with that lone victory coming over Gilbert Yvel at UFC 115. Brendan Schaub is coming off of a knockout loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 134, which ended a five fight winning streak. This is essentially a fight to remain relevant in the heavyweight division and it will be Brendan Schaub doing so.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Rory “Ares†MacDonald (12-1-0) takes on Che “Beautiful†Mills (14-4-0). Rory MacDonald has won three of four in UFC competition, most notably defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 129. Che Mills is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Chris Cope by TKO at UFC 138. This fight does not really seem worthy of co-main event status, but it will be Rory MacDonald winning in the end.
Headlining this card is a UFC Light Heavyweight Title Fight as champion Jon “Bones†Jones (15-1-0) faces Rashad “Suga†Evans (17-1-0). Jon Jones enters the fight riding a six fight winning streak, with two title defenses now under his belt as champion. Rashad Evans enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak and he is undefeated when challenging for a title. This has easily been the best UFC rivalry of 2012 so far, but it will be Jon Jones keeping the gold in the end.
