When going head to head with the Bellator Fighting Championships, it is always best to put on a top notch card and that is exactly what Legacy is doing on Friday Night. This card is headlined by a lightweight title fight, but there is a lot more to be checking out at this event. Also on the card will be some UFC veteran’s in Gerald Harris and Joseph Sandoval, plus a lot of great talent looking for some big time exposure.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as Ryan “Baby Face†Benoit (3-1-0) stands across the cage from Cody Williams (3-1-0). Ryan Benoit has only competed once in the last year, defeating Matt Espinoza at Shark Fights 14 in March 2011. Cody Williams has won two of three in Legacy, only making his professional MMA debut a little over a year ago. This fight is a great way to kick off the televised action, but it will be Cody Williams getting the duke in the end.
We move to the middleweight division as William “Bubba†Bush (4-1-0) competes against Artenas “Machine Gun†Young (7-4-0). William Bush has won two straight heading in this one and he has only fought one time outside of Legacy. Artenas Young is coming off of a successful run in Shark Fights, winning two of three in the promotion. The winner of this should move near the top of the Legacy Middleweight Division and that fighter will be William Bush.
Bantamweights step into the cage again as Angel “The Chosen One†Huerta (5-0-0) does battle with Nelson Salas (3-0-0). Angel Huerta has been undefeated thus far in his MMA career, with only one of five fights going to a decision. Nelson Salas will be making his Legacy debut in this fight, spending his entire career thus far in Back Alley Promotions. A battle between undefeated fighters is always interesting to check out, but it will be Angel Huerta staying undefeated in the end.
Welterweight fighters will be featured next as Evan “The Butcher†Cutts (3-0-0) tests himself against Lee King (16-16-0). Evan Cutts is coming off of the biggest victory of his career when he defeated Reagan Penn, brother of BJ Penn, at Pro Elite II. Lee King is a well-traveled MMA veteran who has fought such luminaries as Edson Barboza, Roger Huerta, Sean Sherk, Melvin Guillard and others. Experience will be everything in this fight as Lee King ends the undefeated streak of Evan Cutts in this encounter.
Another welterweight battle will be next as Mike “The Greek†Bronzoulis (13-4-0) battles Gerald “Hurricane†Harris (20-4-0). Mike Bronzoulis vacated the Legacy Welterweight Title back in 2010 to compete in Strikeforce, where he won one of two. Gerald Harris has won three of four since being released from the UFC, most notably defeating Kazuhiro Nakamura at DREAM 17. This fight could easily be the show stealer of the card, but it will be Gerald Harris winning it when it’s all said and done.
Up next is a third bantamweight division fight as Chad “Robi†Robichaux (11-2-0) takes on Joseph Sandoval (6-2-0). Chad Robichaux enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with one of those losses coming to former Bellator Bantamweight Champion Zach Makovsky. Joseph Sandoval competes for the first time since being released from the UFC, where he lost two in a row. This fight will see one of these two fighters end a losing streak and that fighter doing so will be Chad Robichaux.
Headlining this card is a Legacy Lightweight Title decision fight as Clay Hantz (7-3-0) faces Jorge “Macaco†Patino (26-13-0). Clay Hantz is a late replacement fighter in this one, but he enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak. Jorge Patino also enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Pete Spratt. Being a late replacement is going to hurt Clay Hantz in this one as Jorge Patino wins the gold in the main event.
